The SCR Chambers: Doncaster

At the heart of the Doncaster business community Our vision is to be the best Chamber of Commerce in the U.K. This aspiration drives our team every day to provide the best level of service for our members, stakeholders, the wider borough and beyond. We are the UK’s Chamber of the Year 2019-20.

Essential Chamber services go online

Following the coronavirus outbreak, Doncaster Chamber swiftly implemented a new series of online events which have proved highly successful with the local business community. The new Chamber Digital events were

introduced in March and going forward will form part of Doncaster Chamber’s overall events package. Featuring a wide selection of themes, from how to build a business relationship online, to health and wellbeing, and from cashflow to HR, the response has been hugely positive. Tailored Q&A events with local MPs including Nick Fletcher, local authority leaders, the Mayor and other influential figures have also been delivered, allowing local businesses to speak directly to decision makers and voice their concerns to be fed back directly to government. Jade Dyer, Assistant Director

of Services, said: “With the introduction of Government guidance on social distancing and a large percentage of our members working from home, we knew it was essential to continue to deliver a Chamber events service, albeit remotely. “The events we’ve delivered have been

tailored to meet the needs of our customers and have focussed on topics they have told us they

want our help with in the current climate – this has

often related to support and guidance around finance and

HR, but we have also been able to replicate some of our other events

online, including speed networking which has proved really popular!”

Opportunities Doncaster launches online platform

Opportunities Doncaster has launched a new digital Continuing Professional Development (CPD) platform for teachers aimed at helping schools to improve student performance. The platform addresses the crucial problems

schools face when it comes to staff training: shrinking budgets and a lack of time to plan, deliver and facilitate a high-quality programme of support. Moreover, with recent school closures due to coronavirus, many CPD efforts have been put on hold indefinitely. To deliver this service, Opportunities Doncaster is partnering with Guide Education, leveraging the company’s extensive experience in the education sector to offer an in-depth series of expert best practice and CPD videos, including university-accredited qualifications. Andy Hibbitt, Chief Operating Officer at

Doncaster Chamber, one of the co-founding organisations of Opportunities Doncaster, said: “We are delighted to announce the launch of

our new teacher development platform. We know that one of the major factors that impacts the quality of children’s learning in schools is the

quality of teaching, and the greatest influence on the quality of teaching is the quality of teacher learning.” “As we face such uncertain times in the midst

of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has never been a more important need for educators to model resilience and adaptability. The wave of young people about to leave education will be entering a very different and potentially economically blighted future. We hope that by offering a central platform for schools to upskill all their staff, pupils will leave the school education system with enhanced chances of career success.” Through the use of mobile technology, live

expert mentoring and supporting online content, the platform provides an interactive solution to professional development that can be accessed anywhere, at any time. Every qualification or teacher development course undertaken includes full remote mentor support, access to the online learning platform and expert videos, so teachers can study in their own time wherever they are.

Whilst in person events will return when safe to do so, Chamber Digital will continue to be offered as part of a comprehensive Chamber events package with something for everyone.
