Name: Paul Herridge

Company: Global Broadcast Installations Limited/ Pi Media Limited

Job Title: Managing director

What does your company do? We design, build and supply specialist labour and materials for broadcast installations in the UK and across the globe. Basically we build everything related to broadcast.

How did it all start? My father took me to work with him to help install systems as a child, it all grew from there. I have installed TV studios across the globe – even in Mongolia.

What’s your greatest achievement so far? Being told by my clients that we are an honourable company with great work ethics.

What is the biggest risk you’ve ever taken – and did it work out? Starting my own business. It was a big leap to go from sub-contractor to contractor. Did it work out? My clients would say so.

What keeps you awake at night? Feeling responsible for other people’s livelihoods. They might be my contractors, but they are like my family.

If you could turn the clock back, what would you do differently? I would have started Global Broadcast sooner than I did. A client asked me to take a job on myself. I haven’t looked back since.

What has surprised you most in your job? The incredible loyalty of the

broadcast contractors and their support of what we are trying to build here at Global Broadcast.

What advice would you give to someone starting out? Surround yourself with people you trust, that have the skills you lack. Be honest about this, self- awareness is crucial. Trust your gut and get a great accountant.

Which business do you most admire? Apple – they have managed to produce a beautiful and functional product line that commands premium prices. The ability to remain agile, profitable and innovative has eluded many challengers over the years.

What exciting projects is your business working on? Pi Media – this project is trying to bring TV/film studios and a stronger media presence back to the Midlands.

What made you join Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and how are you making use of your membership? GBCC have enabled us to make many of the contacts we need for Pi Media and the Commonwealth Games 2022. Our relationship manager Jane has made many useful introductions and facilitated some fantastic invitations and networking opportunities.
