Sector Focus Key industry conference cancelled

International property conference MIPIM has cancelled its annual 2020 event in Cannes. The conference, due to take place

in March, was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Conference organisers

rescheduled the event to take place between 2 and 5 June in Cannes, however organisers have now cancelled that as well, and replaced it with a two-day event in Paris in September. MIPIM has also launched a virtual

version of MIPIM, named ‘MIPIM Connect’ for delegates. MIPIM Connect is free for those

who had registered for MIPIM 2020. The new online service features a

range of thought leadership content, networking and business tools, and is available to real estate professionals worldwide. Conference organisers also

confirmed that it still plans to hold MIPIM in 2021, from 16 to 19 March in Cannes. Filippo Rean, real estate division

director at Reed MIDEM, said: “The situation surrounding COVID-19 is changing daily and Government measures are becoming increasingly restrictive. “It is clear that holding a large

MIPIM tradeshow in Cannes in June is not feasible. “As it is not possible to organise

a traditional MIPIM by the end of this year, we are planning a different form of gathering for clients in the autumn in Paris, plus a digital experience, MIPIM Connect. “These aim to help the industry

start to recover and are the precursors of MIPIM in Cannes in March 2021.” Midlands Engine is one of many

organisations which attends MIPIM to showcase the Midlands’ extensive property opportunities to international investors. Sir John Peace, chairman of Midlands Engine, said: “The continued spread of coronavirus has led the organisers of MIPIM 2020 to cancel this year’s event in Cannes, which had previously been postponed to June. “This comes as no surprise following recent developments.

“Whilst it is disappointing that

we are unable to attend MIPIM in Cannes, we fully support the organisers’ decision to cancel the event in the current circumstances. “Our efforts will now turn to securing the best outcome for our partners, and developing our future plans together to ensure the outstanding investment opportunities across the Midlands Engine can be showcased to the world.”
