Business News Growth Through People is online first By Jessica Brookes

Remote leadership, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and good business practices were among the topics scrutinised at Greater Birmingham Chamber’s first digital conference. Nearly 150 people attended the Growth

Through People digital conference, which was originally meant to take place at Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference centre, but was moved online due to the restrictions on large gatherings imposed by the Government. During the conference, a range of leadership

and people management experts discussed their experiences of leading through uncertainty, remote working, and how people management is crucial amidst the ongoing pandemic. One attendee, Katie Stranks, from Chamber member BeanStalk Learning, said: “Expertly hosted by Paul Faulkner, the event provided great speakers sharing their insight into what is currently happening and our future. “I really enjoyed ‘attending’ the conference

and look forward to more online events over the coming weeks and months.” Eighty eight per cent of delegates who

responded to a poll during the event thought leadership and people management skills are more important than usual amid the current coronavirus outbreak. The remaining 12 per cent felt it was of the same importance as usual. The event was part of the month-long, annual

Growth Through People campaign, which aims to boost productivity through improved leadership and people management skills.

Prime Accountants Group, Aston University,

Curium Solutions, and CIPD sponsored the campaign. Paul Faulkner, chief executive of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, compered the event. He said: ”The Growth Through People campaign is all about boosting businesses through improved leadership and people management skills, which are more important than ever in times of uncertainty.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to

everyone who joined the conference online, and express my gratitude to our fantastic speakers and sponsors, Prime Accountants Group, Aston University, Curium Solutions and CIPD, for their involvement and support. “I’d also like to thank everyone at the Chamber who worked on this behind the scenes, for their hard work and dedication for shirting the conference online at such short notice.”
