Testing for recent use, within just a few hours, provides a true solution—a “Win-Win” for all involved.

breathalyzers to measure recent marijuana use. Employees are also the beneficiaries, as they will be able to legally and responsibly use marijuana outside of work hours if they choose, without having to worry about a positive test being triggered by legal use a week earlier. In addition, legislators are beginning

to understand that new laws that prohibit certain types of drug testing create unintended consequences. Te best new laws that protect legal rights and promote safety for employees and customers are laws that allow the use of the latest technology and promote the evolution of employee testing without eliminating it. With the use of marijuana breathalyzers, onsite pre-access and post-accident drug testing will become the new normal— allowing employers to ignore lifestyle choices and focus on marijuana and other drug use during work hours to determine whether an employee should access a site before the accident occurs. Tis approach to drug testing in combination with recovery-supportive work policies will help to ensure a competitive workforce for the new decade. ❚
