The Great Canadian
Plains Railway Society’s vision is to tell and promote the story of the railway in the southern Alberta region from the late 1800s to the 1930s and to recognize the significant contribution made by Sir Alexander Galt and the Canadian Pacific Railway in developing this region. As the operator and caretaker of The Galt Historic Railway Park, The Great Canadian Plains Railway Society collects, preserves, restores exhibits and interprets artifacts which represent the history and social impact of the “steam” and “coal” era in southern Alberta with emphasis on the Galt Railway System and the 1890 International Train.

The Roving Gyms program nurtures physical literacy, the love of movement, and provides an environment for families to connect. They take place every Tuesday morning, Tuesday evening and some Saturday mornings in different locations all over the city. It is a free program but we ask parents to register as space is limited. Watch for details on their annual events like the Father's Day BBQ and Victorian Prairie Christmas events. Be sure to visit the station when it is open in June for the summer, to learn about the history and social impact of the “steam” and
“coal” era in southern Alberta. Volunteers are required for all annual events, to help at the museum when it is open and to assist with ticket sales at two bingo events per month. Take some time and learn about the heritage of the railway system in your area. Check the organization out at

• The Chinook Society for Recovering Addicts, a not-for-profit registered society with charitable status, makes its renovated facility at 408 13 St. N. available as a meeting room space to 12-step groups as well as other groups or organizations. Each of the three available rooms includes tables, chairs, commercial coffee maker and sink. There is a centrally located locker room for group supplies as well as central men’s and women’s washrooms. The facility has central HVAC, is smoke free and wheelchair accessible.
