BETT Report The best of BETT 2020

BETT always takes wacky and dynamic approach to spreading the edtech word, and this year was no exception. Everything from dancing birds to a bus stuffed full of tech was on show at ExCel.

Catching the HP Digital Skills Bus

HP announced the launch of the HP Digital Skills Commu- nity Bus, a converted double decker bus kitted out with the latest education technology. The Bus will visit schools and communities around the UK equipped with two-floors of leading ed-tech, including a VR immersive experience area Supported by HP partners Adobe, Microsoft, Google and Intel, the vehicle will tour the UK across 2020 to showcase how technology can help the delivery of STEAM skills - as well as inspiring the next gen- eration to pursue STEAM-relat- ed disciplines and careers. Unveiled on the opening day of this year’s BETT Conference, education decision makers are invited to request a visit from the bus, which will be available to a broad range of relevant or- ganisations and groups, from schools to colleges to commu- nity hubs. “This is a great example of how the tech industry can work innovatively

to reach schools

and make a real impact on how digital skills are being taught,” commented Neil Sawyer, Chan- nel and Education Director, HP. “The HP Digital Skills Commu- nity Bus will bring market lead- ing ed-tech to the people that need it most – showing educa- tors how the latest devices and programs can enhance STEAM learning, while providing an experience for students that is fun, productive and inspiration- al.” Technology on the bus will include a Virtual Reality expe- rience area powered by HP’s VR-ready range of Z-PCs and Mixed Reality headsets, as well as HP’s portfolio of education edition PCs, equipped with software such as introductory coding classes.

In addition, the bus will fea- ture an Adobe-powered Design

es will be designed with col- laboration in mind, including the ability for students to write notes and draw on the windows and walls, to encourage the sharing of ideas.

Minister for Investment, Gra- ham Stuart MP, said: “The HP Digital Skills Community Bus shows how leading tech firms can support the Government’s continued drive to enhance the way digital skills are taught – a process which will equip to- day’s students, and the UK’s workforce of tomorrow, with the education they need to thrive.” The HP Digital Skills Bus will become the fourth pillar of the HP for Education programme – an industry-first set of ini- tiatives to help institutions get maximum value from their ed-tech investments. Since its inception in 2016, HP for Education has invested over £8 million in schools through a combination of cash-back, credits, resources and compe- tition prizes. To ensure organisations ben- efit from a complete education experience, recipients are able to invest their rewards beyond hardware, including a large range of affiliated software pro- viders. HP aims to give another £3 million back to educators via the HP for Education pro- gramme in 2020.

Great teachers have one thing in mind – the education of their pupils. But so often class sizes, old equipment, lack of support and learning issues can cause difficulties. In a world where technology is offering solutions for everything and is an em- bedded part of our lives, it’s time that we embraced it in the

ViewSonic showcased a Total Edtech Solution that the com- pany argues will enable better digital learning experiences and outcomes. At BETT 2020, ViewSonic showcased two new advanced tools for the first time, including the myView- Board Sens with Artificial Intel- ligence (AI) technology and the myViewBoard Mouse. In addition, ViewSonic present- ed its latest ViewBoard inter- active displays and a new vid- eo-assisted learning feature on the myViewBoard digital white- board software. The new devel- opments come on the heels of new partnerships with Google, Intel, and Microsoft for deeper integration with their EdTech ecosystems. “We are excited to be show- casing the latest developments from our myViewBoard ecosys- tem as they represent our con- tinued commitment to offering a total solution that utilises meaningful technologies for effective digital learning,” said Bonny Cheng, COO of View- Sonic. “Beyond our advanced tools and hardware, our total solution also remains dedicat- ed to be an open platform that is seamlessly integrated with other

leading ecosystems to

provide customers maximum versatility, usability, and effec- tiveness.”

The new myViewBoard Sens with AI functionality is de- signed to help educators bet- ter understand the responses of their students. The built-in sensor with USB-C connectivity is mountable onto digital white- boards. With AI, this device can sense the mood of students – angry, sad, neutral, happy - at any given point during a lesson to provide educators with valu- able feedback on how to im- prove lectures.

The myViewBoard Sens can also monitor the ambient con- ditions of the classroom, in- cluding temperature, humidity, lighting conditions (such as

brightness and colour tempera- ture), noise levels and motion. With these measurements in hand, educators can adjust the ambient conditions in the classroom to create and main- tain an optimal learning envi- ronment.

The myViewBoard Mouse was developed to make digital learning more accessible. The myViewBoard Mouse allows schools to tap into the advan- tages of the myViewBoard eco- system with a minimal initial investment. The myViewBoard Mouse helps achieve this with embedded myViewBoard soft- ware, allowing schools to enjoy the benefits of myViewBoard by connecting with any of their ex- isting displays, whether they be interactive flat panels or mon- itors without capacitive touch capabilities. ViewBoard is designed specif- ically with education in mind and facilitates content sharing through interactive touch and wireless sharing, while also promoting more engaging in- teractions and critical thinking. Complementing the existing 55”, 65”, 75”, 86”, and 98” ViewBoard models, ViewSonic now offers the new 24” View- Board Mini.

The ViewBoard Mini is a front- end smart interactive teaching platform boasting a 24” dis- play with a 10-point projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen. The smart interactive teach- ing platform is geared toward schools that want to upgrade to digital whiteboards but must take into consideration exist- ing projectors that have yet to reach the end of their service lives. The

ViewBoard Mini allows

teachers to use its touchscreen to operate features similar to a digital whiteboard and project content onto a screen with ex- isting projectors. Schools can thereby

upgrade their class-

rooms without rendering their projectors obsolete.
