eems a little crazy that Christmas has been and gone; that we are half way into January 2020 and the event season is less than 6 weeks away. I would like to say I am feeling organised, under control and have everything ready to go… Reality is, we still have 6 weeks!!
The horses all came back in from their holidays just after Christmas meaning it’s been a very busy start to 2020 with lots of hacking, road work and hill work. When bringing them back after some time off I like to make sure they do plenty of work on the road and uphill to not only build fitness but they love the change of scenery. Although on days like today, it’s not quite so enjoyable with horizontal rain, dodging puddles and trying to ensure all cars remain ‘Equine Slow’.
Since seeing in the New Year there has been plenty of season 2020 preparation. Those horses that had a slightly shorter holiday have been doing plenty of posh trotting practice; developing their lateral work, suppleness and teaching new movements that they are likely to encounter when they move up a level. As well as dressage practice they have had a number of BS and Arena XC outings. I believe in keeping their work varied and on a variety of different surfaces. The horses all had the dentist yesterday, and thanks to Alex
Jessett Equine Dentistry their teeth are all in good shape with just routine work needed. Some of them also had a visit from the amazing Annabelle Galt Physio. Annabelle has been looking after the horses I ride for many years now ensuring they can all perform to their best and she will continue to see each horse approximately every four weeks.
Next on the list will be routine saddle checks from the lovely Phil, from Voltaire Design Saddles. Although Phil pays us a
