Doncaster on track to maximise HS2


More than 100 Doncaster businesses are on track to take advantage of the country’s biggest investment in national railways since the Victorian era. They were among those attending a HS2

between Birmingham and London is well underway. Around 2,000 companies have supported HS2, with 70% of contracts going to SMEs, supporting jobs and apprenticeships across the country. The project currently supports 9,000 jobs across Britain, with UK-based companies forming 99% of our supply chain.


HS2 will need an estimated 30,000 people to design and build the full network, which will extend northwards to Crewe, Manchester and Leeds. Dan Fell, Chief Executive at Doncaster Chamber, said: “At a time of macro-economic


uncertainty, the UK needs to push ahead of large scale and transformative


infrastructure projects such as HS2. It is often tempting to evaluate infrastructure projects only from the perspective of connectivity benefits. It is the Chamber’s view that it is equally important to understand the economic benefits of projects such as HS2 through the lens of skills development and supply chain opportunities.
