could adopt to encourage a happy team that feel appreciated. Here are six of my top tips:

companies are starting to recognise that happiness in the workplace is essential and are taking steps to embrace and encourage it. If employees aren’t happy, they
are less likely to perform to the best of their ability which could dramatically affect the success of a business. Happy employees are consequently less likely to call in sick and will be more likely to stay at a company for a longer duration. It therefore makes business sense to invest in and nurture a healthy work force.

Start off on the right foot. Make new employees feel welcome
and valued. One way to show this is to give them a welcome pack with all the essentials they need for their new job. If selected wisely, the branded gifts chosen can encapsulate your brand image and culture too.
Gather the team for an hour or so to allow everyone to
contribute their ideas to developing the business – they will appreciate the opportunity and feel their opinion is valued. You could even just let the team meet up without the presence of an MD to really let the ideas flow. You could combine this with a free breakfast, lunch or even Friday afternoon drinks!
Appraisal systems are a great way to motivate employees
and help to focus on what it is they want to achieve and work towards – whether it be work progression, a

financial gain or something they aspire to own.
Supply a work uniform or reward staff with a desirable
company branded garment. Not only will branded workwear increase brand exposure and help to create a professional perception of the brand, it will also encourage pride and camaraderie amongst the team.
Offer the option for staff to have an annual volunteer day.
Helping others can provide a real sense of pride and it is healthy for the team to work together in an environment other than the workplace. You can build upon and learn new skills. We have just helped out at Whirlow Hall Farm Trust where we learnt how to do dry stone walling!
Regularly reward outstanding performance with a branded gift
they will value and appreciate. Whether performance is assessed by management or between team members, a desirable gift can lift spirits and create a happy workforce.
