Have a super Christmas

Christmas is a time to cherish friendships old and new and share happy memories with those around us. Nobody should be alone over the festive season so what better way to meet new people than at the SuperJam Christmas Party.

For five years, SuperJam Tea Parties have been held at the Holiday Inn at Dodworth for the elderly, lonely or isolated to come together to talk over tea and cake or have a dance to the sounds of live entertainment. This December, they are hosting their annual Christmas party on Tuesday 3rd December where guests can enjoy a festive lunch followed by performances from singers Stevie Moore and Patricia Lynn for a good old-fashioned sing-along.

The initiative was started in 2014 by Kathy Markwick who was given £300 by the Rotary

Clubs of Barnsley to put on an event for older people in the town where 40 people attended. Since then, the event has snowballed into becoming a monthly meeting with up to 250 people joining in the fun each time. In recognition for her dedication to the cause, Kathy was recently nominated for the Oustanding Champion at this year’s Community Champions Awards, established by South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation and BBC Radio Sheffield. She was highly commended on the night for her work across the borough. Following the success of SuperJam in

Barnsley, Kathy is now working with the Rotary Clubs of Doncaster to bring the tea parties to the town.

SuperJam Christmas Party is on Tuesday 3rd December, 1pm-4pm at Holiday Inn Barnsley, Dodworth S75 3JT, just off junction 37 of the M1.

Tickets are £5 and must be booked in advance. Call Kathy on 0114 283 0827 or 0772 952 8844
