FEELING FESTIVE YORK

GRASSINGTON

From Thursday 14th November to Sunday 22nd December Open Monday to Wednesday 10am-6pm, Thursday to Saturday 10am-8pm and Sunday 9am-5pm

Walking through the cobbled streets of York at Christmastime with the Minster all lit up is a medieval, magical experience in itself. But St Nicholas Fair which dominates Parliament Street only adds to York’s festive appeal. The many cabins which make up the Made in Yorkshire Yuletide Village will be home to a range

of local crafters and makers to give the gift of Yorkshire with love this year. For more excitement, head to King’s Square fair where the popular fairground rides will be back for another year. www.visityork.org/whats-on/ christmas

Saturday 30th November & Sunday 1st December, Saturday 7th December & Sunday 8th December Open 11am-7pm

Looking for a different kind of Christmas market? Step back in time to the Victorian era with Grassington’s Dickensian Festival set over two weekends. A picturesque village in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington will be transported back through time with the whole village taking part in the Victorian- themed event.

Along with stalls that will snake through the village, there will be a host of brass bands, buskers and

street performers playing in the streets throughout both weekends. Look out for magicians, musicians and even old Scrooge.

The highlight of each day is a torchlit nativity procession through the village ending with community carol singing for all to get involved with. www.grassingtondickensian .co.uk

From Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th November

Open Thursday and Friday 10am-8pm, Saturday 9.30am- 8pm, Sunday 9.30am-5.30pm

Although only held for four days, the Harrogate Christmas Market certainly packs a punch. Based at The Stray in the historic Montpellier Quarter, the annual event will see almost 200 stalls line the streets selling Yorkshire wares. There will also be two large marquees; one for crafts and gifts and the other food and drink.

Making a special appearance will be Santa and his reindeer who is taking time off from his busy

schedule to open the celebrations on the Thursday before setting up his grotto.

There will also be funfair rides plus live music throughout the four-day event. www.harrogatechristmas market.org
