Chairman of HS2 is keynote for Chamber’s flagship conference

The Chairman of HS2, Allan Cook CBE, will be the lead keynote at the Chamber’s flagship State of the Economy Conference 2019, which takes place this month. Allan will discuss how the implementation of HS2 will bolster the infrastructure capabilities of the East Midlands region and, with the future of HS2 firmly on the agenda, the conference is a great opportunity to hear the latest developments from a prominent expert in the area. The largest annual event of its

kind in the East Midlands, the State of the Economy Conference is kindly sponsored by Midlands Connect (headline sponsor), Sports Direct, Geldards and Turner & Townsend. It is an outstanding opportunity for businesses of all sizes and sectors to convey compelling messages to key influencers and decision makers, ensuring the region’s voice is heard when shaping Britain’s future at this crucial juncture. The conference will welcome a

range of leading economic analysts, political representatives and prominent experts across multiple fields. Each will share their perspectives on topical issues of regional and national significance, while also examining the implications of Brexit and bolstering infrastructure capabilities. The conference will also include

two panel discussions with key representatives from leading businesses in the East Midlands. The first discussion will centre on boosting the competiveness of the region, while the second will examine the region’s ability to capitalise on the opportunities available regarding the ‘bigger picture’, proposed by the newly- founded East Midlands Development Cooperation. Chris Hobson, the Chamber’s

Director of Policy, said: “Our State of the Economy Conference is always a date for the diary with many of the region’s leading influencers and thinkers in attendance. “However this is arguably the

most important conference we have held to date, given the timing and the current and sustained backdrop of uncertainty. “With so many business-critical
