Inspirational women in business win awards
The head of a commercial law firm and the founder of a fast-growing marketing agency have scooped prestigious women in business awards. Claire Twells, Partner at Derby law firm Smith
Partnership, was named as the most inspirational female leader in the region at the East Midlands Women's Awards. Claire had already received the Top Female
Executive of the Year award before she was announced as the overall winner at the ceremony, held by Women In Management UK. The accolade tops off a memorable summer for
Claire, who was instrumental in one of Smith Partnership’s biggest ever contracts to become the preferred legal partner for the new Nightingale Quarter development, in Derby. Claire, who heads up the debt recovery team and
business development department at Smith Partnership, is passionate about fighting for justice for her clients and willing to add value by offering free advice to other businesses. In 2017, she helped form Derby’s Finest - a group
which aims to inspire, celebrate and support women across the county in their professional lives across the private, public or voluntary sectors. She said: “I am overwhelmed by the award, particularly as there were so many inspirational women at the ceremony. I am pleased that I have been recognised but I could not have achieved so much had it not been for the support of both my wonderful colleagues at Smith Partnership and the love of my fantastic family.” Meanwhile, Gemma Orton, the Founder and Managing Director of Leicestershire-based Mocha Marketing, was recognised as Business Woman of the Year at the Nachural East Midlands Entrepreneurship Awards 2019. The awards were created to celebrate the ideas, innovation and strategic thinking from business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Gemma founded Mocha six years ago after spending many years in senior marketing positions in the sports industry. She appointed several marketing agencies over the
years to work with her teams, but says it was these experiences that led her to launch her own marketing agency because she believed there was a gap in the market for an agency to work with clients as a true extension of their team. She said: “I really can’t describe how
ecstatic I am to receive this award. “As much as this award is for
Business Women of the Year, I accepted it on behalf of our entire team. Mocha might have been all about me once upon a time, but fast forward six years and I am no more important than the rest of our team. I am so grateful to each and every one of our employees who share the same values for our business as I do.”

IT support firm earns top European ranking
Managed IT service provider (MSP) Your IT Department has been named as one of the EMEA region’s premier firms in the sector in the inaugural Channel Futures European Partners 51 rankings. Every year, MSPs worldwide
complete an extensive survey and application to report their product offerings, growth rates, annual total and recurring revenues, pricing structures, revenue mix and more. They are then ranked according
to a unique methodology that weights revenue figures according to how well the applicant's business strategy anticipates trends in the fast-evolving channel ecosystem. This year, 51 European MSPs have been chosen to represent the
EMEA region. The Eastwood-based firm will be honoured alongside its 50 fellow winners at a special event at Channel Evolution Europe, in London, in December. Kris Blackmon, Content Director
of Channel Partners, said: “We are excited to bring special recognition to our European partners. The EP 51 programme will serve as the foundation of the extension of our content into the European theatre through our events, award initiatives and editorial coverage. We congratulate these elite European MSPs and look forward to building a close-knit community of partners in the EMEA region.” Your IT Department provides
