New Owner at Horse & Garden


Horse & Garden has been established in the centre of Halesworth for around 50 years. The business is a popular and much-loved shop and as of October 1st it is now under new ownership. Doreen Roberts will be familiar to many as she and her husband, Nigel, have run Wild About Birds just down the road in Theberton for the last eight years. Doreen has fond memories of


Horse & Garden having used it herself for many years. When the opportunity arose to secure the business and continue its existence she took steps to do so.


Naturally, having run a


similar type of shop for the last eight years – Doreen knows the industry and is well placed to ensure she continues to offer both new and existing clients the best service. Doreen’s son, Mark, is now


looking after the day to day running of Wild About Birds which gives Doreen the scope to throw herself into Horse & Garden. Visitors to the shop will notice that it is still very much the same layout and that the stock is very similar. This is purely because Doreen likes the layout and stock that Sal, the previous owner, had worked hard to create – there is no point reinventing the wheel! Those that are new to Horse

At the moment – as we move through autumn and towards the cooler winter months - you will notice a good line of winter and waterproof clothing alongside a huge selection of boots and footwear – this is the place to come and get ready for winter! Of course, the business is renowned for equine supplies and that is still very much the case – this sits alongside all other pet requirements. However, as with everything else in the shop, if you can’t find what you want – please just ask and Doreen, Amy and the staff who will either point you in the right direction or if it is not in stock they may well be able to order it in for you. things, you will find a range of tools, accessories, essentials,


bulbs and seeds and supplies for all bird lovers – surely enough to please anyone from fair-weather gardeners to green- fingered all-season garden lovers. With the season of goodwill


fast approaching, this is a great place to come and have a browse for gifts for friends and relatives who are lovers of all things outdoors. Doreen and her team are always on hand to help when and where needed and will gladly offer the benefit of their experience and


knowledge. Doreen is passionate


about keeping this fantastic business going in the centre of Halesworth. This is a small market town surrounded by fields, farms and woodland – we have plenty of call for wellies, dog treats and horse feed!
