SECTOR FOCUS: LEGAL

Nash & Co adopt a different approach to legal services

Nash & Co Solicitors have been in the city since 1926, but over the last four years in particular, have changed their emphasis significantly. “We want to be a bit different to other firms in the area,” said Managing Partner, Jon Loney. “Fundamentally, it’s about having the right people on board who share our ethos. We’re really happy with where we are right now, but we’re not going to sit back and take things easy. Even in the current times of economic uncertainty, we’re looking to expand some of our teams and recruit the very best people, giving our clients access to the most trusted and best legal solutions.”

What do you mean that you want Nash & Co Solicitors to be “different”?

We put a real emphasis on getting feedback from our clients, and ensuring that our clients have the best experience with us that they can – from the time they first contact us about a piece of work, right through the work itself, and to its completion. We therefore focus on

communication, being pragmatic, helpful, friendly, fair but at all times, professional. We aren’t just going to explain the law; instead, we’ll provide solutions that work for them and address their concerns or problems.

This emphasis on client

experience means that everyone in the firm has a vital role to play, from our receptionists through to the lawyers, and the secretaries. Our support staff are also crucial in ensuring that the client journey is as smooth and efficient as possible. We couldn’t possibly begin to

offer our clients the best advice without getting to know them inside and out, and our clients tell us that they value our honesty, our transparency and our integrity – all vital elements in building long term and trusted relationships. That’s not me just saying it – look at our client testimonials and Google reviews for an independent view.

What areas of the firm are your focus for the future?

Our employment, commercial and commercial property teams work for a number of well-known multinational corporations and offer advice to a wide range of companies locally and regionally. These teams, and our

employment team especially, are talking with large manufacturers and other potential new clients in the area about how we can help them in the future. We anticipate that dispute resolution is an area that will grow significantly in importance, both in wider business and in the firm itself. We have the only family team in

the area to be ranked in both Legal 500 and Chambers, and this coming year will see more of our teams ranked in these guides than ever before. As we start working with more and more family businesses in the area, we anticipate working a lot more on succession and tax planning, ensuring assets are protected through wills and lasting powers of attorney and connecting them to our network of professional advisors – accountants, banks, surveyors etc. Residential conveyancing has

seen a boost in work recently with more and more clients coming on board because of our mobile phone app. On average, it helps property transactions complete two-three weeks quicker than by using traditional methods, and clients can fill in forms, send us documents

and even sign paperwork electronically, speeding up the whole process. It also gives them twenty four hour access to their files and continual status updates. An aging population will see

more work for our vulnerable client team, and the personal injury team are busier than they have been for a long time.

What does all this mean for your employees?

It’s really important that our staff feel valued and know that they’re an important part of the firm. So we work hard at ensuring everyone gets the right training and support in order for them to do their job, to the best of their ability. We treat our people fairly, and I

believe, in a way that gets the best out of them. We have a great group of people at the firm who organise social events, and we also pay for staff to take part in activities such as the Midnight Walk and the Great South West Sportive – both of which we headline sponsor – and the 5k, 10k and the half marathon. Protecting the environment is becoming increasingly important and we’re making big strides in our own goals to reduce our carbon footprint and plastic use. We believe in leaving the world

in a better place than we found it, and we want to help make a difference to our community through the work we do and the platform we have. Over the past four years we’ve

been one of the biggest corporate donors for St Luke’s Hospice and over the next year we’d like to start doing more for other charities and groups in the area. Our staff will get a big say in these decisions. One thing that’s been particularly pleasing for us is, by involving the staff in these choices, we get even more of their buy-in and engagement for the groups and events that we support.
