Another fine mess as region’s professionals come together


The Plymouth Area Business Council Professionals Dinner was held in the Wardroom at HMS Drake for the first time this year. This historic venue was kindly provided by Commodore Peter Coulson ADC as a replacement for HMS Ocean, which has now left the fleet. Sponsored by Womble Bond Dickinson and Plymouth Citybus, the


invited guests were treated to excellent entertainment including beating the retreat provided by the Drake Volunteer Band before dinner and all adjourned outside for the ceremonial sunset.

OBE also updated the room about the Royal Navy’s current deployments and capabilities. Guests of honour included Lady Mary Burnell-Nugent, HM Deputy Lord


Lieutenant of Devon, and her husband Admiral Sir James Burnell-Nugent, KCB, CBE, ADC who gave the Loyal Toast. Brigadier Jock Fraser, MBE, ADC, Royal Marines Naval Regional Commander Wales and Western England also gave a toast and Reverend Major Darren Middleton of 29 Commando said Grace.

assistant Wendy Cracroft for providing the PABC with so much support, and the chefs and Mess staff including Ian Snook and Stephen Legge were thanked for providing such fine food and for running such a fabulous event. Plymouth’s own Suzanne Sparrow was also formally recognised and thanked by the Navy for her service at HMS Drake during the Second World War. PABC is administered by Devon & Plymouth Chamber and comprises invited senior sector leaders in the area.
