“We had a property to sell before we could commit to the purchase, but once we were ready to sign on the dotted line, things were very smooth.”

once we were ready to sign on the dotted line, things were very smooth.”

When on the Island, the family love enjoying Friday night dinners at Coast, in Cowes, and Saturday morning bacon sandwiches before a walk with the dog to Gurnard.

“We are right on the High Street in Cowes and love exploring the local shops – Buff, Live Like This, Maritime Vintage and Rosalies of Cowes are all favourites of ours. There are also some great spots to eat – something I don’t remember being the case in my childhood!” says Charles.

“If we’re here for more than a night, we’ll drive to another part of the

Island,” says Hervé. “We’re still exploring – there are some amazing walks above Compton Bay and Alum Bay, or along the seafront from Ventnor to Bonchurch.”

When they’re not weekending on the Island, the family live in a village just outside Winchester – although Hervé spends Tuesday to Friday each week in Geneva, Switzerland, for work.

“We moved to the Winchester area 18 months ago after 25 years abroad, including the last ten years in New York City,” said Charles.

“We both work for the United Nations. Hervé is with the World Food Programme, which provides food to

90+ million people a year. Before that he worked for the UN’s Roll Back Malaria initiative. I worked for the UN Human Rights Office for 12 years and now do some consultancy work for them from home.”

Charles lived for six years in Sydney, before the couple lived together in Brussels, Paris, Geneva and New York.

“While Hervé still travels a lot for work, my only travel these days is Southampton to West Cowes on the Red Jet,” says Charles. “Having spent the first part of my life in airports and hotels, I’d be happy never to go anywhere ever again.”
