Behind the

Scenes with The London Office

Bob Bickersteth and Milly English

The London Office acts on behalf of leading provincial estate agents to promote their clients’ properties to a wider audience and at the helm is Bob Bickersteth, acting for Spence Willard

Is now a good time for buyers to relocate to the Isle of Wight?

“We find that people looking to move to the Island are a mixed crowd; some are looking for a lifestyle change, others for the sailing. There are empty nesters wanting to downsize and enjoy the favourable climate and others moving for family connections. With signs of the London property market bottoming out, and the stability of prices on the Island, we have seen an increase in applicants registering to move out of London, including a noticeable surge in thirty–somethings leaving. These people are leaving friends in order to find a home they can afford and, in many cases, schools for their children. They are trading in their shoebox-sized flats or terraces for family homes with bigger gardens and a better quality of life.

Modern technology has enabled greater flexibility to work from home, either part or full time, which has diminished the need to travel daily to the workplace. This, combined with improvements to the railways and roads, has opened up areas

that traditionally would have been off the search radar for those looking to move from London. These buyers are conscious that they are not willing to offer over market value, despite the inflated expectations of some vendors”.

Does having a physical London presence help with marketing properties to potential buyers?

“To achieve the best possible result for a vendor it is crucial to have a well thought out, and comprehensive online and offline marketing campaign for each property. As the leading estate agent on the Island, with our spread of offices, we are confident that potential purchasers will know of us. However, having an office in central London enables us to target those buyers who may be looking elsewhere in the UK and could be unaware of the benefits of buying on the Island.

Potential purchasers are able to discuss their requirements with us and we can answer questions about prices, market conditions and schools. We can search the database for them

and give out brochures of suitable properties. We are in a unique position to harness these potential buyers with prominent street level offices, with large window displays.”

The London Office

The London Office provides an outlet within a prime position in the capital which assists in our marketing, along with a network of prominent regional agents across the country. Together with their website and magazine, they help promote our properties to a wider market.
