Derby Museums crowned ‘star baker’ in competition


The heat was on for six teams of bakers who took part in the launch of The Bake Off 2019 during an afternoon of fun, frolics and a few soggy bottoms. The launch took place with


guidance from Simon Lilley - a Masterchef of Great Britain. Teams that were represented


included Chamber members HUUB, Derby Museums, Quad, Marketing Derby and Century Mobile. Each had two hours to produce a masterpiece. The stand-out duo on the day


was Mo Suleman and Judi Spall from Derby Museums who produced a cake depicting the Silk Mill, complete with cascade of poppies, windows, brickwork and people. Mo won a place in the final, which will take place at the Marketing Derby Garden Party on 12 September. Lindsey Hatfield, Commercial


Development Manager at Marketing Derby, said “When Dawn, (of Love Marketing) first approached me with the idea I thought it would be a perfect event for the Bondholders to be involved in - an opportunity to show off their creative flair while bonding with team mates."


Charity football match raises money for club


An annual Play on the Pitch charity football tournament has raised over £2,300 towards the funding of new playing facilities for grassroots football in Derbyshire. The tournament took place at


the New York Stadium, home to Rotherham United FC, and was arranged by staff at full-service marketing agency, Purpose Media. A full day of tournament-style


games took place with over 150 young footballers of all ages. The highlight of the day was


the Dads and Coaches versus Team Purpose Media, which was won by Purpose Media - coming back from a 2-0 deficit to triumph 4-3. Purpose Media Managing


Director Matt Wheatcroft said: “Both my daughters play football for Sleetmoor so I’ve witnessed first-hand how being able to take part in a team activity has benefited everyone involved. Events like this help to unite the club and the community to galvanise the support we need to help us achieve our vision.” The event was a vital fund


raiser for Sleetmoor United as it steps up efforts to raise match funding to install a new 4G pitch. The club is about to submit its business plan to apply for Football Foundation funding.

Roman coin nets a pretty penny for Bluebell Wood


Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice cashed in when one of its eagle-eyed team sifted through a batch of coins from its collecting tins. Among the mini mountain of small


change was a Roman coin dating from c.330AD. How it got there remains a mystery. But as the coin is similar in


appearance to a penny piece, hospice fundraisers are now wondering if the coin - minted in the era of Constantine the Great - has been rattling around in circulation for centuries. Sue Brown, Ebay Sales


Administrator at the hospice, said: “The coin was in a huge box of foreign and discontinued coins our volunteers had amassed from our collecting tins. We managed to sell it on eBay for £25. “To date we have also discovered an 1807 Spanish


Real, which we sold for £32, a number of Georgian cartwheel pennies which raised around £20 each and a number of commemorative £1, £2 and 50p coins which all went for more than their face value to collectors.”


Ebay sales bring the North Anston-based hospice

pristine in its original box, which sold for £1,000 to a buyer in Sweden. Other finds include a rare early 1880 Besson


trumpet, windsurfing equipment and 20 sets of golf clubs, which were bought by a youth group.

Lieutenant of Leicestershire, who looked back on his first year as the Queen’s representative for the county. The black tie event was


compèred by BBC Radio Leicester presenter Monica Winfield and was attended by all partners at the accountancy firm. The Very Reverend David


Monteith, Dean of Leicester, said: “We are very grateful to Newby Castleman for its continued sponsorship and ongoing support
