A floral FESTIVAL of LOVE is to be held at Christ Church, Great Broughton. The event is to celebrate the gift of love, in a season when many weddings take place and to give the people the opportunity to visit a small but beautiful, village church, whose stained-glass windows date from the Arts and Crafts period in the 19th Century

The displays will be the handiwork of members of the Workington Flower Club supported by the church’s regular flower arrangers. There will be refreshments

available, a raffle and a photographic quiz which will be a test of local knowledge!

Open: Friday 12th, Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th July from 10.30am to 4.30pm There is parking nearby

Admission is FREE but donations are welcome for church funds, which includes support for various good causes

The Festival will close with a service of Songs of Praise at 6.30pm accompanied by local group TRAVELLING LIGHT

We were recently invited to send two of the team to Southampton to see the stunning brand-new cruise ship Celebrity Edge. So, Rachel and Bethan ventured south and had a fantastic couple of days exploring the ship, checking out the cabins and of course making sure all the dining options and cocktails were thoroughly tested and are suitable for our clients!

I have been lucky enough to see five of their ships and Julie and Barny are shortly off to Liverpool to see the Celebrity Reflection. I love selling ‘Celebrity’ because they do what it says on the tin and their ships are luxurious without being pretentious and are a great option for first-time cruisers who love the smart casual dress code and the tables for two at dinner.

If you are off to Paris any time soon and would like to visit the Louvre, please buy your tickets in advance, the world-famous gallery is struggling with staffing issues and queues to buy tickets have been long and slow!

Stottie and I had a few days in Puerto Pollensa in Northern Mallorca at the end of May. We stayed at the Adults Only hotel Mar Senses. Now Hiccup and Heartburn are grown-up, I prefer not to spend my holidays with other people’s little angels!

The hotel is very modern and contemporary in style and is situated only two minutes’ walk from the stunning beach and tree-lined promenade with bars and restaurants. It’s perfectly located to enjoy everything Puerto

20127 COCKERMOUTH TRAVEL

Pollensa has to offer. The hotel has a beautiful pool area which provides a calming place to relax and unwind, although this hotel like many these days, suffers from those that like to get up at 4am to reserve a sunbed that they sit on for half an hour before sunset! Grrrrrr! Please can someone invent a device that logs the time and by whom the beds were reserved, then causes the towels to self- combust if not sat on within 90 minutes! Whinge over!

I loved Pollensa and would happily go back, it’s also a fantastic base for cyclists and walkers to explore northern Mallorca. I hired a bike (€15 per day) and had a fab time exploring the Old town of Pollensa and some pretty villages untouched by tourism.

You can find pictures of this and all our trips if you follow our page on Instagram Cockermouthtravel. Watch out for pictures from Rachel’s trip to see the new Celebrity Edge cruise ship and Bethan’s amazing Vietnam trip coming soon.

We often get asked about taking prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines on holiday – the NHS has a fantastic detailed guide which should answer most questions – it’s worth checking, especially if you’re travelling to the middle east where they are particularly strict.
