he year 2018 was another year of continued economic growth in Lethbridge County.

Wewelcomed new businesses and

sawmany of our existing businesses expand to meet increased demands. Through a third-party Business Retention and Expansion survey done of our County businesses last year, overall business satisfaction was found to be very strong at over 90 per cent, with 56 per cent of businesses surveyed indicating that they plan to expand their operations in the next two years. These results are encouraging and suggest that our businesses are confident in the future of our economy. Growing our vibrant economic

environment is one of Lethbridge County Council and administration’s priorities in 2019

and beyond. Aswe look to the future, there are many significant and exciting possibilities on the horizon for our region. Lethbridge County’s thriving

agricultural sector is truly the backbone of our economy.Within our boundaries,we produce high- quality grain, canola, beef, pork, and poultry (just to name a few) and have three cheese processing facilities and several greenhouses that produce many kinds of vegetables. One could have a very well-rounded diet by eating just the products grown here in Lethbridge County! To further strengthen our

agricultural sector, County Council and staff are working with our regional partners to further develop an agri-food corridor alongHighway 3 that is capable of providingmore value-added processing to our locally grown agricultural products. By processing these products right

here,we can add jobs for local workers and increase the area’s economic activity and prosperity.

Another initiative thatwe are

working on is the Protein Innovations Canada supercluster, an industry-led initiative based on the Prairies which aims to make Canada a world leading source for high-quality proteins, both plant and animal. As global demand for traceable,

ethically-produced, nutritious food increases, Lethbridge County is well-positioned to be able to provide new food products in addition to the other top-quality foodwe already produce. The future is bright for Lethbridge

County and our region as a whole. We recognize thatwe are in a unique position to further growour economy in partnership with our producers, businesses, and municipal neighbours, and are ready for the many opportunities that await us.
