BIG CITY, BIG EVENTS, BIG AMENITIES, BIG FUTURE PROGRESS 2019  Page 3

Lethbridgeleadingthewayfor industry,innovationandcivicinvolvement

ethbridge and our surrounding communities are home to world leaders in many areas of industry.

Whether it’s the forward-thinking

research being done by our two post- secondary institutions or local manufacturers who are utilizing sustainable technology for a greener way forward,we are evolving and attracting dynamic opportunities for the betterment of our residents and region. Fromhome builders and

construction industries to agri-food and food processing sectors, key businesses in our economic landscape continue to make investments in our city and in our future. It’s not just the investment of infrastructure these businesses offer our city, it’s the job security and employment opportunities that come with their investment. Apprenticeship opportunities lead to successful and

rewarding career paths which in turn lead to a stable local economy. We are a city thatwelcomes new and diverse industries and supports those who continue to add value to our region. A promising bright spot on the City’s

horizon is the redevelopment of the Lethbridge Airport. City council recently heard a presentation on the Lethbridge AirportMaster Plan, which outlines an immense economic opportunity for our city and surrounding areas. Fromcommercial development of the

airport land to the expanded services it would provide to passengers, our airport will be a significant economic driver for our future. As both major Canadian airlines have increased their services to the Lethbridge Airport in the past 12months, the passenger traffic has reflected this increase andwe are planning to capitalize on this momentum.

Spearman was electedMayor of Lethbridge in 2013 and re-elected in 2017

Chris Spearman LETHBRIDGE CITY OF An investment in this piece of

infrastructure brings several new revenue streams including distribution centre opportunities for current local

businesses aswell as aviation and non- aviation industries. Advocating for provincial and federal funding support for infrastructure improvements and social programming also remain a top priority for us as a city. We will continue to push forMunicipal Sustainability Initiative funding and look for projects that will help keep our economymoving. This funding is integral to the future of city planning and projects like thewestside fire station which is the next big construction project for our city. Even as our population grows year by

year and our skyline changes, it’s the sense of community and togetherness that continues to make Lethbridge feel small town. But aswe know,we are no longer a small-town kind of city.We are a big-ideas, bright-future kind of city. We innovate in the face of adversity and we forge ahead in times of uncertainty andwe do it together.
