Nebraskans Supporting Nebraskans
When Alex Stepanek, who grew up on a farm near St. Paul, Nebraska, put together a collage of photos of the flood damage on social media and asked people for donations, he hoped to raise $5,000. In a short period of time, how- ever, the fund grew to $250,000. In the end more than 5,400 people, from every state and even overseas, donated.
With the help of friend Melissa Dush, they established a “designated do- nor” account at a local bank for their “Nebraska Storm and Flood Relief” fund. Nearly 100% of the funds will go to those in need, save the occasional fee for a cashier’s check. At least one third of the amount ($83,000) will go straight to ag relief. The rest of the money will be distributed to other com- munities in need.
“Growing up in a small town, you have that feeling of community, of wanting to help each other,” Stepanek said to News Channel 5. “And I think all of Nebraska is like that in total, especially in times of crisis. And so, I think this was a great time for Nebraska to come together.”

John Deere Dealers Team Up for Disaster Relief in Nebraska
Nebraska John Deere agricultural deal- ers teamed-up to contribute $60,000 for disaster relief. The donations were distributed to a variety of programs aid- ing farmers, ranchers and rural commu- nities, including EDA’s Disaster Relief Fund. In addition to the contributions, the dealers each provided additional relief, including much needed supplies and equipment.
“It’s important for those facing such widespread destruction to know they have support,” said Kevin Clark, CEO, Plains Equipment Group. “Deere dealers uniting for a common cause to help our friends and neighbors is really special, and shows the kindness of the people of Nebraska.”

Special Delivery to Fremont
With the help of the Nebraska National Guard and State Patrol, Hy- Vee delivered supplies (water, food & gas) via a special convoy to Fremont,
Nebraska, a community that was surrounded by flood waters for several days. It took over two hours to get from Omaha to Fremont (on roads that
weren’t open to the public), thanks to the Nebraska DOT plowing through the mud to get them there.
