AgriVision – Pacific Junction

AGRIVISION EQUIPMENT | Pacific Junction & Hamburg, IA

When Jeremy Ostrander received word that the Missouri River levels were rapidly raising, he decided to move everything they could out of AgriVi- sion’s Pacific Junction location. “We moved equipment to any space we could find on high ground, including 90 to 100 pieces at my home and some at customer farms,” said Os- trander. “We went wherever we could find open space as quickly as possible.”

They worked non-stop on Friday until they were forced to evacuate that evening. By Saturday morning, the dealership had taken on water. In the end, the dealership was engulfed by 98 inches of water that stayed for over a week.

When they were finally able to get back into the dealership nearly 80 people answered the call for volun- teers to help clean up the dealership, including several farmers and 30 from Deere and Co. “It has been good to see the community pull together,” said Ostrander. “It’s times like these that force communities to bond. We’ve also been incredibly touched by the number of dealers who have reached out to help.”

While they did move parts off low- er shelves in both the showroom and parts warehouse, it wasn’t high enough to escape the water. “We end- ed up filling 10 semi loads of flooded parts that we shipped to our Winterset location,” said Ostrander. “A crew is currently sorting through everything to see what can be salvaged.”

They worked with Service Master to install a heating unit and piped ventilation throughout to help the building dry out. “We decided to gut the entire store and leave it for the time being since it’s likely that the store will flood again this spring,” said Ostrander.

While AgriVision had less than 24 hours warning to get things moved at the Pacific Junction location, further south the Hamburg store had another 24 hours to prepare, which allowed them to not only move all of the equipment, but more tools as well. The Hamburg location took on eight to 10 feet of water, which didn’t fully recede until April 18. Clean up at the dealership started the following week.
