Woodlands. Visit the Easter Bun- ny’s Grotto, join in the Easter egg hunts and other activities at Woodlands. Extra charge applies for the Easter Bunny’s Grotto. Fizz Pop Science on April 19 with workshops and shows. Park open 9.30am-5pm daily.
20th: Point-to-Point, Flete Park. Fun day for all the family with a mix of different races.
20th: South Pool Easter Fun Day and Duck Race. Join us for a fabulous fun day, with bonnets, great food and lots of ducks – 11.30am-2.30pm.
28th: Exercise Tiger service, Sherman tank memorial

Torcross. Dedicated to the memory of the 639 American soldiers and sailors who perished on April 28, 1944. The memorial service will be held at 2.30pm.
28th: Big Day Out on the
Farm, East Soar Farm, near Kingsbridge. Join the rangers and South Devon AONB for farm walks, children’s activities, meeting the animals, barbecue and refreshments – 11am-3pm.
28th: Open Garden, Bowring- sleigh, West Alvington, near Kingsbridge.
Bowringsleigh
has beautiful, extensive gardens and grounds with a stunning backdrop of the Grade I-listed Elizabethan house. The gardens will be open for viewing, with teas, refreshments and plant and cake stalls. Admission is £5 per person; children free. Free park- ing. Limited wheelchair access. Dogs on leads allowed. 3rd-12th: Modbury May Fair Week. Stalls, music, perfor- mances and other entertainment. This year’s theme is ‘storybook favourites’.
4th: Modbury Harriers Point- to-Point, Flete Park. The point- to-point race days at Flete draw some of the biggest crowds of horses and spectators in the south west point-to-point calen- dar. They provide an exceptional day for both racing enthusiasts and families wishing to enjoy a spring Saturday out in the country.
4th-6th: Brixham Pirate Festival. A swashbuckling mix of piratical fun and entertainment around the harbour – 10am-6pm.
5th: Blackawton Internation-
al Festival of Wormcharming. Teams of three charm worms from the earth. Rules apply. Child, adult and mixed teams. Register at the event. There is also a fun dog show, including fancy dress, fun football, a music and beer festival, auction and other events. A grand day out for all the family. From 11am.
Contributed East Prawle Fair goes ahead in May
5th: Salcombe Crabfest. Inspired by the famously flavoursome brown crab caught off the south Devon coast, Salcombe Crab Festival – or Crabfest – is an annual celebration of the local fishing, food and tourism industries – 10am-6pm.
10th-12th: Dart Music Festival, Dartmouth. An annual three- day music festival now in its 20th year. Its ‘Music for All’ policy means more than 100 performances throughout the town spanning almost every musical genre in a variety of lovely venues, from pubs to churches – and it’s all free.
11th: Ivybridge 10k. Starting at Ivybridge station car park, this running race attracts 775 com- petitors every year. The race has been a fixture since 2003 and the scenic route is popular with both runners and spectators alike.
14th: Guided tour of Shilstone, Devon Rural Archive, Shilstone House, near Modbury. Experience a tour led by resident archaeolo- gist Abi Gray exploring the history of the site, surviving archaeology and rare architectural features.
16th: South Hams Writers Group. A welcoming group for writers of all genres. Come along to share your work, listen to others and gain inspiration along the way. Held in Kingsbridge Rest Centre, near the library. All are welcome. 2pm-4pm.
18th: Museum’s at Night, Kings- bridge Cookworthy Museum. Open evening and barbecue.
19th: Exmouth Triathlon. Junior and senior triathlon from eight years up. This new event will start with the youth, junior and adult races at 8am to avoid traffic on the bike course. The swim in the 25m pool is followed by an out-and- back bike ride around the lanes for youth, junior and senior catego- ries. You finish with a picturesque – and pretty flat – out-and-back cycle up the Exe Estuary Trail.
24th-27th: May Bank Holiday Music and Beer Fest. Back for its fourth year, the Tower Inn,
Slapton, hosts its beer and music festival. Bigger and better than ever before. Live music all day Saturday and Sunday with a fantastic line-up of Westcountry performers. Food all day both days. More than 20 beers on offer.
24th-26th: Sea Change Festival, various venues, Totnes and Dar- tington. A weekend of literature, talks and music.
24th-27th: Hope Cove Beer and Music Festival. One of the biggest dates in the Cove’s calendar. Refreshed and rebranded, the fourth annual celebration of beer and music takes place during the event’s birthday bank holiday weekend.
24th-27th: Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta. Take part in the Brixham Heritage Regatta during the May bank holiday and sail in the company of many traditional vessels of all types, shapes and sizes in the beautiful setting of Torbay.
A historic event that started back in the early 1800s sees Brix- ham embrace their heritage with pride. Sail and race in the com- pany of other historic vessels during the day and enjoy a host of organised events.
25th-29th: Brixfest 2019. Grand firework display, dragonboat challenge, kids’ day, local live music and cooking demonstra- tions. From 11am.
25th-2nd June: Dino Week, Woodlands. Meet our interactive dinosaur Roary and the Wood- lands Supastarz team. Fizz Pop Science on May 31.
26th: Prawle Fair, the Pig’s Nose Inn, East Prawle. One of the most popular events in the South Hams. Starts 2pm.
26th: Welly Beer Festival, Creek’s End, Kingsbridge. Devon beer, cider, gin tasting and live music. It all helps to raise funds for research into motor neurone disease.
26th-27th: Dartington 26 Food
Festival. A whole host of local star chefs and local producers.
27th: Kingsbridge Classic Car Rally.
All makes and ages of classic cars on the bank holiday.
27th-31st: Fun family half-term events, Slapton. Join us for lots of fun this half-term. Activities include woodland exploration, bat walks, mammals and moths, seashore adventure, survive in the wild and pond dipping. Booking required. For more details and to book, email events.

1st-2nd: Malborough Open Gardens. In aid of All Saints Church. Refreshments and cream teas at the church – noon-5.30pm. Tickets available at the church.
2nd: Explore the Shore – Snakes, Seaweed & Smugglers, Ayrmer Cove. Meet at Ayrmer Cove National Trust car park in Ringmore. The event will explore the history and environment of this secluded cove. Please book in advance. 11am-2.20pm.

7th-9th: Contemporary Craft Festival, Bovey Tracey. One of the best contemporary craft sell- ing events in Europe.
8th-9th: The Rock Watersports Festival, South Milton Sands. A weekend of canoeing, paddle- boarding, sit-on-top kayaks, wild swimming and more. 1pm-7pm.
9th: South Hams Triathlon. Now in its fifth year, this sprint- distance triathlon offers a stun- ning course starting and finishing at Blackpool Sands beach. First wave at 7.30am.

14th: Free wine and spirit tast- ing, Barrel & Still, Kingsbridge. 4pm-6pm.
15th: Brixham Trawler Race. The race is the highlight in the port’s year and celebrates its mari- time excellence. Boats, adorned with bunting, battle it out in a race around the bay, creating quite a spectacle for locals and visitors alike. The afterparty on the quayside is always fun for all the family and lets the fisherman have a catch-up, but the event also raises thousands of pounds for local charities.
15th-16th: The Holistic Festival, Lupton. A two-day summer fes- tival for all the family in the heart of beautiful south Devon.

22nd: Holbefest. Devon family festival with great bands, freshly cooked food, licensed bar and fun and games for all ages.
22nd-30th: South Brent Carnival Week. The procession on Satur- day, June 29, starts at 6.15pm.
29th-30th: Dartmouth Art & Craft Weekend. The 16th annual event is in aid of Children’s Hos- pice South West. An interesting and fun weekend where you can watch, talk to and buy from a host of talented artists and craft workers displaying their creations. 10am-4pm.
July
5th-15th: Ways With Words Fes- tival, Dartington. A vibrant and joyful 10-day festival of words and ideas in south Devon set in the glorious Dartington Hall, just outside Totnes. People come together in spectacular surround- ings to share the pleasure and power of language and ideas. The mission of the festival is to “promote both the written and the spoken word”.
6th: South Brent Folk Day. South Brent Folk presents the eighth annual South Brent Folk Day, with singing, music, dancing, workshops and concerts around the village.
7th-12th: Merlin Rocket Week, Salcombe. Sailing competitions in the estuary.
13th-14th: Tribal Clash, Bantham Beach. Crossfit affiliates, rogue boxes, garage gyms, fire stations, military companies… The world is now covered in thousands of tight- knit and highly motivated fitness families. These communities are united by a desire to be the best that they can be, but each is uniquely different in culture, ethos, identity and approach. Tribal Clash provides both a meeting ground for these tribes to come together to celebrate their similarities, as well as a stage on which to demonstrate that which sets them apart.
