The six-volume official history of the campaign, compiled by Major-General C. Macgregor and Major F. G. Cardew was suppressed on the grounds that it contained ‘restricted’ information and was never officially published, though (rare) odd proof volumes sometimes appear. This “abridged” version was prepared by Cardew and is superbly detailed and thorough and the best single volume of the campaign by far.
