Although this is the 19th house the cou- ple has built, they plan to stay, so they add- ed many custom features and did much of the work themselves. “Every time I saw something neat, I took a mental note of it,” says Steve, who has worked at Gilbert Realty for 33 years. The 2,000-square-foot downstairs, which is the couple’s primary living space, features 10-foot ceilings and an open floor plan connecting the kitchen with living and dining areas. Traci, who works at Butler Furniture and


does interior design, tastefully combines neutrals to create light, airy living spaces. Throughout the home, walls are painted in Sherwin-Williams Antique White, and fur- nishings continue the neutral color scheme.


“When I come home, I need quiet, peace- ful colors, and calm,” Traci says. “Having

Although the couple jokes about Traci’s penchant for white, the light colors create roomy and restful spaces. In the living room, cream-colored sofas,


armchairs and wingback chairs surround a jute rug layered with a Persian rug in shades of cream and navy blue. Throw pillows, one in a chunky knit and another in velvet, pro- vide texture. Folded, striped linen throws are layered over the backs of chairs. The furniture is a mixture of flea market and antique finds, along with furniture by Magnolia Home and Park Hill Home, both found at Butler Furniture. The wide-plank flooring is made of white oak and has a dark walnut finish. After Steve sanded the floors to perfection, they
