SHAVINGS PURPOSE M ADE F OR HORSES BEDMAX Managing Director, Tim Smalley, explains:

“Once again our latest Equine Health Survey has shown that respiratory disease is by far the biggest health threat to stabled horses.

Airborne dust in the confines of a stable is the biggest cause of equine respiratory disease, and poor bedding is often the biggest source of this airborne

dust. That’s why our priority has always been to ensure that our BEDMAX and LITTLEMAX shavings are dust free, because if they’re managed properly they can create a bed that prevents horses suffering from this really widespread disease.

Themost important conclusion from our Equine Health Survey is thatmany horses in the UK are suffering from respiratory and hoof problems, and their owners are paying hefty vet’s bills to treat these diseases which can be prevented by changing the conditions in which we keep our horses in stables.

The potential for a horse to suffer hoof infection and disease can also be prevented or much reduced by providing a bedding that helps maintain high levels of hygiene. Both BEDMAX and LITTLEMAX are made principally from pine timber, which has unique, natural antibacterial properties, and both brands of shavings are dried at sterilising temperatures.

Over the 20 years since we began researching and then making BEDMAX, every survey we have carried out has shown us that almost every horse owner in the UK is totally committed to keeping their horses as healthy and happy as possible. This latest survey shows just how difficult that can be, particularly during the winter months when horses spend long periods in their stables. We would like to help put that right.

We are trying to promote more awareness particularly of respiratory disease. We will continue trying to highlight just how big this problem is, how much it is costing horses and their owners, and how using BEDMAX and LITTLEMAX can help kick the biggest equine health threats out of the stable.
