TRAVEL
o Pearl The
Last springtime, we traversed the streets of Budapest, and despite not being the most restful of breaks, it really was the perfect tonic. Few European cities can rival the sheer grandeur of Hungary’s beautifully historic capital, with a mix of architectural finery lining the banks of the Danube river which lies at its heart. Sometimes referred to as the ‘Paris of the East’, Budapest is a wonderful place to visit at any time of year and is a paradise for explorers. Keep your senses primed and you’ll discover something wonderful at every turn. Budapest is the combination of the cities Buda and Pest, which, together with Óbuda, united in 1873. Buda and Pest are connected by the spectacular Chain Bridge, one of the most beautiful in the world, which you can enjoy from atop the Buda Hill, floating along the Danube by boat, or by enjoying a picnic at the edge of Pest.
HIGHLIGHTS: Parliament
The most recognisable building in all of Budapest, the spectacular Parliament building is an absolute must-visit. It is spectacular on the outside and inside, with an interior decorated with marble and gold that is incredible. Stroll along the Danube river, taking in every corner of the magnificent architectural masterpiece.
River Cruise
The best views of the Parliament are obtained from a cruise on the Danube where the views are truly spectacular. Take a romantic cruise along the river while marvelling at the genuine beauty and century old grace of the bridges and buildings en route.
f the Danube
After the humdrum of the recent festivities, this time of year can feel a little flat and many of us are itching to plan holidays or city breaks, with the promise of adventure something to look forward to and help us get through the long winter days ahead.
Fisherman’s Bastion
A panoramic viewing terrace with fairy tale towers, Fisherman’s Bastion offers panoramic views of the City. The Fisherman’s Bastion was built at the site of an old rampart that, during the Middle Ages, was defended by the guild of fishermen, who lived nearby.
Thermal Baths
Budapest sits on a patchwork of more than 100 thermal springs, gaining it the title ‘City of Spas’ back in 1934. In fact, it has more thermal and medicinal water springs than any other capital city in the world and 70 million litres of thermal water are pumped into the baths each day. The temperature of the waters is between 21 and 78 Celsius, making a visit an enjoyable recreational treat.
New York Café
Affectionately known as the most beautiful café in the World, The New York Café at Boscolo Hotel, Budapest, is an exquisite dining experience. Immersing ourselves in the essence of a new destination often means sitting in one of its cafés, sipping coffee and lingering over an indulgent pastry. Here, you’ll also be busy gazing at the ornate ceiling, gilded eggshell pillars and exquisite Venetian chandeliers.
