The work is being carried out in two phases to ensure minimum disruption. The first phase over the close season in 2018/19, with the aim to start the second phase in 2019/20.
Phase One: The move of Prince Consort Drive and development of the Princes’ Ground (Ground 3): a. Work started on 31 October 2018 to move Prince Consort Drive, the road that runs behind the scoreboard on The Queen’s Ground to Cumberland Gate, further west to the edge of Smith’s Lawn, providing a new and safer right of way for cars, horses and cyclists. This work is expected to last approximately eight weeks. b. In early Spring, work will begin to expand, level and improve the surface, drainage and irrigation of the Princes’ Ground. The exact start date is dependent on weather conditions but should be completed and re-seeded by June 2019. The aim is to have some play on the ground in the 2020 season.
Phase Two: The realigning, levelling and upgrading of Grounds 4 - 8. This will create three full-size grounds from grounds 4-8. The start of this phase will be dependent on the establishment of the new Princes’ Ground but is unlikely to commence before the end of the 2019 season.
