KAT SHAYLER SOCIAL MEDIA ADVISER

Kat Shayler owns a social media training company called Sharpfox which offers tailored social media coaching for small businesses and start-ups. With a love of fashion and accessories and a style of her own, Kat juggles her business as social media queen with family life in the Cotswolds.

I can hardly believe Christmas is almost here? At SharpFox we’ve been planning Christmas content for clients since August, but even so, the big day seems to have come around really quickly this year.

Whilst I loathe all things Halloween (I am a real traditionalist and disagree with children knocking on doors for sweets and then trying to get them to bed whilst they ride a wave of sugar and hype!) - I absolutely love all things Christmas. I start my Christmas preparations mid November as it’s so much easier to plan for the kid’s stockings which rather unromantic are all purchased in one fell swoop on Amazon. I've had too many years of ending up with 'stocking overfill' because of buying them a little something for their stocking every time I went shopping, so now I find Amazon is the way to go, then it’s all done and dusted.

I think my favourite part of Christmas is not having to cook. I’m a notoriously terrible cook, so Christmas is usually spent at a family member’s house trying to avoid any kind of chef-duty and 'said' family member is shamelessly selected based on whether they are serving Turkey or not. I know lots of you will have a twist on your Christmas lunch but I'm pro- Turkey. Nothing else will do. Even if it’s as dry as a bone, it’s got to be Turkey.

I love Christmas Day because it’s the one day of the year I tend to be so caught up in the moment throughout the day that my phone lies idle and my Instagram account sits untouched. I know it sounds silly, but sometimes it’s so nice to actually live in the moment and not through a distorted view on social media. Technology allows me to keep the office rolling even when I'm not,

I'll have used my social media scheduling platforms to schedule all my client’s social media so no need to worry about that for a few days either. Christmas is a time to exhale, and I'll be doing a lot of that amongst eating Turkey and clinking glasses!

So that’s it for me for 2018, thank you for reading this column for the last few months... see you on the other side... 2019!

Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year!
