Southeast Texas HFC Dear TALHFA Members:

There is more to the Story! Just one of the many sessions at this year’s Educational Conference in September at Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop Texas. Housing Finance is critical as a dynamic financial tool for the economic vitality of all of our communi- ties. Housing Finance has many partners, managing

different components; legal, financial, community, legislative, and yes - even political.

For those of you who were able to join us for our Annual Conference, you know that it was a GREAT CONFERENCE! We came together as ad- vocates for each of our communities and for the people we serve in our neighborhoods! We finance homes - not just units. Yes, there is more to the story!

One of the major focuses of the Conference was the upcoming State Legislative Session in Austin beginning in January of 2019. As many of you are aware, the State has increasing oversight of local growth in many areas… sometimes known as unfunded mandates, as revenue caps and even the overall limiting of local control.

TALHFA has a core group of members who understand the legislative process very well. The state has continuing oversight of administrative rulemaking and controls the potential impact to affordable housing fi- nance in every neighborhood in every town, city and county in Texas. It is critical that no matter what your role might be in providing a sense of community to many families in Texas, we have a role in Texas’ housing future.

While the session has not started, preliminary discussions of the pro- posed legislative agenda are moving fast in preparation for January 2019. The eyes of Texas are upon us!

Happy Fall!

A Note From The President

Patricia
