Where does the time go? Here we are once again staring at the end of the year and another Legislative Session right around the corner. There will be lots of excitement be-
fore this year is over. November 6th will bring us the mid-term election and both political parties are fighting hard for their piece of the majority pie. The day will be won by the party that can get their supporters to the polls regardless of weather and reporting by the media.
As interesting as the elections will be, my mind is on a different race for power. I’m con- cerned with who is going to be elected Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. Both Democrats and Republican have thrown their hat into the ring, but it is not just a D
or R fight, it is also a battle of rural vs urban. Election Day will only play a small part in the Speakers race, though I don’t know who will win I can tell you it will be a Republican and that they likely will come from a less populated region of Texas.
Elections are not the only thing happening! TALHFA is in full swing of drafting and building support for the issues that are important to our portion of the affordable housing industry. I encourage each of you to place February 20, 2019 on your calendar so you don’t miss your opportunity to join other partners in affordable housing at the Capitol for Rally Day! This a great way to connect with the members of the legislature that represents your community. We always have a great turn out from the TALHFA membership and I am sure this year will be no different.
I hope that everyone is sending your groundbreaking photos and community stories to the TALHFA office so they can be included in TALHFA Talk. Remember, TALHFA Talk is hand delivered to every state Representative and Senator in Texas.
