Mote Park car charge‘greedy’
THE price of parking atMote Park inMaidstone, after 6pmis causing anger amongst local dogwalkers. They are unhappy at being
charged £2 to visit the popular open spacewith their pets. Bridget Sapiano (pictured) claims
she and other dog owners have ac- cusedMaidstone Borough Council, which owns and runs the park, of being “greedy”. Miss Sapiano (53), of Curzon
Road, Maidstone, said: “I have no problem with the parking charge during the day, as I understand the councilneeds tomake revenue, but I find it so greedy and unnecessary to charge £2 for parking after 6pm, when the only peoplewhowill be in the park are dog walkers, those at- tendingsportingevents andfamilies. “I think it is wrong that I cannot
takemy dogNed to a public park in the centre of town without paying £2 for parking or a £60 penalty. “It’s not just the fact that the park
is so local and easy forme to get to, it is also the safest.” Miss Sapiano added: “Iwouldlike
to start a petition online to get the campaign going, so the council have no choice but to reviewit.” A spokesman forMaidstone Bor-
oughCouncil said: “There is a nom- inal charge of £2 for 6 hours for people choosing to park in Mote Park. Entry is free to all visitors ar-
riving on foot, such as dogwalkers, and for those who use the park be- fore 10am, when parking fees com- mence. “Maidstone residents who regu-
larly use this award-winning park can also buy an annual parking pass for £40,whichwe feel still represents great value. “We know how popular Mote
Park is andwe aremaking every ef- fort to invest in its future, with a £4.3m pound project to improve its facilities over the next three years.”
