New homes delayed by sewerage rebuild

A MAJOR new housing develop- ment in Headcorn has been sus- pendeduntil 2019while the village sewerage systemis rebuilt. Concerns have been raised for

years that the dramatic increase in planned housebuilding in the area willput evengreater strain on its old and creakingwaste disposal. Nowthe BovisHomes site on the

edge of the village near the bowls club, known asCatkinGardens, will be put on hold while Southern Water carries out utilitywork. Borough councillorMartinRound

said: “The Bovis development is quite advanced, but it’s probably quitewise.” Paul McBride, technical director

for BovisHomes’ south east region, said: “We’ve not been able to make the progress we would have hoped at Catkin Gardens and have made the decision to postpone house- buildinguntil the beginning of 2019. “Thisdelay isdue to ongoing util-

itiesworks, which are being carried out by external parties close to the

site, taking longer than expected. “This work is important for the

progress of the development, and for the provision to the wider com- munity, and the decision has been made to allowthiswork to be com- pleted before continuing with the delivery of thesemuch-needed new homes. “Wewould like to thank the com-

munity for their patience and sup- port, and look forward to welcoming potential residents to
