Young fail to getTVlicence


MAIDSTONEhas been brandedthe worst area inKent for young people being caughtwithout a TV licence. The top five areas in Kent where


themost young peoplewere caught watching illegally were Maidstone (63), Rochester (53), Ashford (53) Chatham(45) andGillingham(44). Newfigures showthat 694 young


people between the ages of 18 and 25 in Kent were caught watching live TVor BBCiPlayerwithout a TV licence in the past year, according to statistics released by TV Licensing. DanMcDonald, chief executive of


Medway Citizens Advice, said: “Catching up on a favourite show after aday of studying is a greatway to unwind, and this research shows how popular TV continues to be among students. “We encourage all students to be


sure they’ve got their TV Licence sorted, especially newstudentswho might not knowthe rules.” TV Licensing is asking students

sible for thewhole CanterburyDio- cese, which also includes the districts of Maidstone, Swale, Thanet, Folkestone and Hythe and Ashford. The bishop, who is now 68, was


ordained deacon at St Mary’s Church in Luton in 1974, conse- crated Bishop of Basingstoke in 2002, and took up his present roles as both Bishop ofDover and Bishop in Canterbury in February 2010. He has been a regular in the bor-


ough, making visits to the Kent Show (pictured) and taking part in the combined churches Waypoint Project inMaidstone. The Archbishop of Canterbury,
