Studying A Level Physical Education will give you a fantastic insight into the amazing world of sports performance. Not only will you have the chance to perform or coach a sport through the non-exam assessment component, you will also develop a wide ranging knowledge into the how and why of physical activity and sport. The combination of physical performance and academic challenge provides an exciting opportunity. You can perform, and then, through the academic study, improve your performance or coaching though application of the theory. Physical Education is studied in a range of different contexts and we look at the impact it has on


our everyday lives and the lives of others. You will learn the reasons why we do things and why some people outperform others. You will also delve into the ethical considerations behind the use of drugs and also the influence that modern technology is having in and on physical activity and sport.


AS (1 Year) Physiological factors affecting performance • 1 hour 15 minute written paper • 70 marks • 35% of AS Level.


Psychological and socio-cultural themes in physical education • 1 hour 15 minute written paper • 70 marks • 35% of AS Level.


Performance in physical education • Non-exam assessment • 60 marks • 30% of AS Level.


A Level (2 Year) Physiological factors affecting performance • 2 hour written paper • 90 marks • 30% of A2 Level.


Psychological factors affecting performance • 1 hour written paper • 60 marks • 20% of A2 Level.


Socio-cultural issues in physical activity and sport • 1 hour written paper • 60 marks • 20% of A2 Level.


Performance in physical education Non-exam assessment 60 marks 30% of A2 Level.


Please note: We have two possible PE courses (Sports Science/PE as detailed above and Sport & Physical Activity as detailed overleaf).


We will be offering just one of these courses, based on the most suitable/ appropriate qualification for the applicants.
