Airline increases flights to Istanbul

Turkish Airlines are to launch a second daily flight between Birmingham and Istanbul for summer 2019. The launch of the second service

offers passengers greater choice and flexibility with two daily flights. The first service will leave Birmingham Airport at 10.40am, arriving in to Istanbul at 4.35pm local time, with the second flight departing at 5pm from Birmingham and arriving in to the Turkish capital at 10.55pm local time. The second flight is to launch on

31 March 2019. Tom Screen, acting aviation

director at Birmingham Airport said: “It is great to see that Turkish Airlines will commence the double daily flights for summer 2019. “The airline is listening and

reacting to the needs of the customer, creating more flexibility for passengers.” Mr Omer Faruk Alier, general

manager – Birmingham, Turkish Airlines, added: “We are pleased to announce that due to the popularity of the route we will be adding extra two flights per week, making a total of 14 flights each week from Birmingham to our hub in Istanbul and beyond from summer 2019.”

Business Travel Services are back on track

Plans to bring rail services back to Darlaston and Willenhall after an absence of more than half a century have taken a major step forward. West Midlands mayor Andy Street announced that

seven acres of land in Cemetery Road, Darlaston, had been secured – completing another piece of the land jigsaw required for the new station. The land has been sold by property developers

and investors St Francis Group to the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). The new stations at Darlaston and nearby Willenhall

are part of a wider £3.4bn investment in new transport schemes to be delivered by the WMCA.

The mayor was joined by Cllr Mike Bird, leader of

Walsall Council and WMCA portfolio holder for land and housing and Gareth Williams, development director of St Francis Group, to announce the land deal on the site of the planned station at Bentley Point. The mayor said: “This is an important step towards

restoring rail passenger services to a community which hasn’t had a station now for over half a century. With housing and investment taking place on brownfield sites across the Black Country, this is a vital piece of infrastructure which will make a huge difference.” The two new stations are expected to cost around £18m in total and could be open by 2021.
