The theme for our October issue is Women’s Health and in June

we addressed Men’s Health. Whether it is men or women what is true for all of us is the effect of stress. We are being reminded all the time that it is necessary to eat well, sleep enough and do our best to reduce stress. Unfortunately, not too many of us can do that so eas- ily nowadays especially when we combine working outside the home, caring for the home and tending to our partner and children. Young women with babies and careers are particularly stressed as they try to juggle it all. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to slow down and put our energies into our priorities. Sometimes it feels like our lives are being dictated rather than chosen. Under these circumstances, it is important not to lose sight of

our values. What we value has power. Our values can guide us and serve as indicators of where we are and where we are headed. We have to stay conscious of what we value and integrate it in our daily lives. If our health is important, we need to develop habits that will support and enhance us. We can cook and eat better meals paying attention to the quality and quantity of what we eat and let’s not for- get to stay hydrated. We can exercise whether at the gym, going for a quick walk or practicing yoga. Along with our physical health, we need to pay attention to our emotional and psychological health and, last but not least, the health of our relationship. For our men- tal and emotional health it is important to be conscious of what we think and say. Negativity affects our mood and even our bodies, not to mention the people around us. And, we can bring loving kindness into all of our relationships so they become a source of support and comfort. We all need to be acknowledged, supported and

nurtured and we need to remember to do it for ourselves first and then we will get it from others.

Panic Attacks and Energy

dying—so these attacks can be very frightening. The cause of panic attacks include psychological vulnera- bilities, stress and unresolved childhood issues and sometimes all three. The many symptoms associated with a panic attack are a racing heart, heart palpita- tions, feeling weak or lack of energy, feeling faint or dizzy, tingling or numbness in the hands and fingers, a sense of terror or impending doom or death, feeling sweaty, having chills, chest pains, breathing difficul- ties and a feeling of loss of control. Panic attacks affect people in devastating ways.

Medicine by Dr. Anne M. Deatly A panic attack is intense and sudden

OnemillionAmericans experience panic attacks every month. Sixty percent of those million Americans are 35-64 year old and 37% are 18-34 years old. Eighty- three percent experience a decline in work quality, 63% lose their jobs or income, and 43% are unable to work for at least one month. There are energy medicine techniques to reduce

the effects of these attacks in the moment including slow, deep breathing, reducing reactive energies and balancing the Fire Rhythm energy. Slow, Deep Breathing The first is to consciously slow down your breath-

ing. Taking slow, deep breaths calms the nervous sys- tem which helps shift the autonomic nervous from the sympathetic or stress response to the parasympathetic or peace response. Reduce Reactive Energies There are two energies that can be reactive during

panic attacks. These reactive energies involve the energetic systems of Triple Warmer and Circulation/Sex. There are two poses that involve con- necting with neurovascular points to reduce the reac- tive response. Neurovascular points connect the ner- vous system and the vascular system to reduce reac- tive responses. (1) To reduce Triple Warmer reactivity, put your

middle fingers on your thumbs, put your thumbs in your temples and put your other fingers on the main neurovascular points on the forehead- above each eye. Hold each of these poses for at least 5 min. Balancing the Fire Rhythm To balance the energy of the Fire Rhythm, hold

one hand at the back of your head behind the eyebrows while holding the other hand over the main neurovas- cular points. Hold for at least 5 min. Discovering the core issues that trigger panic

attacks is key to eliminate the devastating effects from them. Knowing the reason for the intense fear, anxiety and the feeling of losing control provides hints on the core issue. If there was childhood trauma, resolving the trauma is necessary to clear the triggers of panic attacks. Self -limiting beliefs are usually at the core of the panic attacks. Therefore, self-limiting beliefs must also be addressed and released. Using specific ener- getic techniques, self-limiting beliefs can be removed permanently.
