POLICY MATTERS

The Chamber’s Policy Executive ELEANOR SOUTHGATE represents your views to the people who matter.

Refusing to be trumped by the arrival of the US President, and in spite of the traditional warnings about the day, the Chamber held its Planning Ahead of Brexit Event on Friday 13 July. Enjoying the best of the weather and the views from the very top of the

Grant Thornton offices, the audience heard from Head of Trade at the British Chambers of Commerce, Anastassia Beliakova; Florence Burey- Abraham, Compliance Manager at AFL Hyperscale; Tom Cargill, Executive Director of the British Foreign Policy Group; Giles Mullins, Partner at Grant Thornton, and Iain Stewart, MP for Milton Keynes South. The panel’s expert advice was particularly timely given the release of the

Government’s White Paper the previous day. The key message of the discussion focussed on how to upgrade customer service to overcome potential Brexit-related disruptions. The foreign policy and political representatives on the panel agreed that

the ambition of Milton Keynes, its businesses, local authorities and investment projects have powerful potential, all of which need to be harnessed to attract skills and maximise the post-Brexit economy. Each panellist used their closing remarks to commit to a positive

reframing of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, and the Chamber would concur with this. Without the possibility of avoiding the impacts of Brexit, all businesses must immediately understand their exposure and look to redesigning their strategies, their products and their processes to take advantage of the changing economic and regulatory landscape.
