Football Level 3 Winter Games

Abbeyfield School Young Volunteers The young leaders from Abbeyfield School braved the weather a to officiate the games, running the lines, time keeping and refereeing. Without their volunteering the event could not have happened so a big thank you to them and Abbeyfield School for releasing them for the day. They were a real credit to the school and conducted themselves very professionally all day.

Abbeyfield Young Leaders Boys Small Schools Winners Southwick

The second of our Level 3 county competitions was held at Stanley Park, Chippenham.

The fantastic facilities gave a perfect back drop to a very competitive and hard fought competition. Thanks to Wiltshire FA organising the tournament and officials which made for such a successful day for all involved.

Small School Competition The day started at 9.30am with 9 Small School ready and warmed up to start their tournament;

The first semi-final was between St Andrews and St Nicholas with St Nicholas winning 1:0. Followed closely by the other semi-final where Southwick beat Holt 1:0. The final was a close game but when Southwick scored not long before full time they were ecstatic and went on to win 1:0 and their celebrations summed up how important this was for them to be County Champions!

Winners - Southwick Runners up - St Nicholas

Other schools that took part were: Woodford Valley, St Andrews, Stanton, King William Street, Seagry, Holt, All Cannings

Even though the weather changed and took a turn for the worst the rain did not dampen anyone’s enthusiasm.

Girls Competition After lunch time the Girls competition got underway and there was some great play and closely fought matches;

Some very cold but determined girls entered the semi-final stage with Holy Cross playing Bitham Brook first. Holy Cross won 2:0 and the second semi- final was between Southwick and Lea and Garsdon with Lea and Garsdon winning 1:0. The final was very close all the way to the final whistle they had to play extra time as they were drawing 0:0 and finally the game was decided by penalties which is always a difficult way to end such an even game. Holy Cross were the first to score a penalty and as all the others were saved became winners, 1:0.

Winners - Holy Cross Runners up - Lea and Garsdon

Other schools that took part were: St Pauls, Southwick, St Marks, Amesbury, Bitham Brook, All Cannings, Downton, Goddard Park

Large School Competition The light was starting to go by the time the large schools competition was underway as the rain and cold continued to test everyone’s resolution with many parents watching and cheering on their children. The 12 schools below took part in the afternoon’s tournament with flood lights being switched on before the end of the competition.

Lawn played Colerne in the first semi- final and won 3:0 the other semi-final was between Kings Lodge and Aloeric with Kings Lodge winning after extra time again and the game being decided by penalties 2:1. The final was a very good standard of football with Lawn scoring 3 goals to win the competition.

Winners - Lawn Runners up - Kings Lodge

Girls Winners Holy Cross

Other schools that took part were: St Marks, Bitham Brook, Amesbury, Harnham, Nursteed, Colerne, Aloeric

Young Volunteer Leaders Winners St Edmund’s Wiltshire and Swindon Relay 3 Some good feedback about

the day: “Thank you to all involved in organising the event. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had a lovely morning” Leanne, St Nicholas School.

Please pass on our sincere thanks to all those who worked so hard to put on today’s final, it was an amazing day. Although the girls were in tears at the end from losing in the final at the penalty shoot outs they had an amazing day, as did the parents and myself. Thank you for giving the children the amazing opportunity to take part in such a great event. Alison Withers, Lea School

Great Sportsmanship

Boys Large Schools Winners Lawn IZB Level 3 Winter Games

On 21 April the Level 3 IZB competition was held at Marlborough College. Schools that took part were Marlborough College, Avon Valley College, Commonweal and St Edmunds.

IZB is a fully inclusive sport.

There are 4 players in a side – 2 are ambulant and 2 play in wheelchairs. Thanks to Ben Humphries and Lewis Bird from Swindon Shock who arrived early to train leaders from Marlborough College as umpires and results recorders. Schools were also given some coaching before the tournament began.

The matches were very close and at one point it looked as if we

were going to have a 3 way tie. Very accurate shooting from St Edmund’s gave them the victory by the narrowest of margins from Commonweal.

The feedback from the schools was that they had a fantastic day and really enjoyed trying a new sport.

The 12 leaders from Marlborough College were great. They picked up the rules to a new sport quickly and were able to umpire the matches professionally supported by Lewis.

Big thank you to Swindon Shock for delivering a well-organised event and to Marlborough College for hosting.
