Mid Wilts Schools Chippenham Primary Hockey festival


8 teams taking part. It was Redlands that came away as the winners and progress onto the play off also held at Chippenham on the 11th March. Special thanks were given to Chippenham Hockey club who assisted in the running of this competition.


Malmesbury School hosted primary gym competition


As term 3 draws to an end, here is a chance to look back at the Mid-Wilts School Games calendar which has involved hundreds of young people.


Level 2 Boys KS3 Basketball


hosted at Devizes in January and was won by a strong Sheldon side. The Sheldon Boys went onto the L3 county finals event held at St Johns where they finished 5th.


Level 3 Girls KS3 Basketball


hosted by Sheldon School, who also provided Carl Williams (referee) and six fantastic young leaders and officials. The competition was won by Sheldon who also progressed to the L3 county finals competition held at St Johns. They finished second overall, a superb achievement.


Mid-Wilts primary football festival


Due to the high numbers entering the playoffs were organised at Malmesbury School. A strong Colerne side overcame Malmesbury, and in the girls competition Lea Primary defeated Corsham Primary in a closely fought battle. Both teams progressed to the L3 held at Stanley Park along with Mid Wilts representatives Kings Lodge, St Pauls, Stanton, Seagry, All Cannings and Nursteed.


Gymnastics and Trampolining Level 2 -


Wiltshire festival where 150 pupils took part. With excellent displays from everyone competing, and the advanced competition lived up to its high expectations with some of the best gymnasts from Wiltshire taking to the floor. The professionalism from the competitors and their high spirits created a fantastic atmosphere. A special thank you was given to the young judges provided by Malmesbury School, and the senior judges provided by The Wiltshire School of Gymnastics who all did a fantastic job.


10 Wiltshire and Swindon Relay


Sherston won the vault competition with Lea taking the floor honors. Brinkworth were runners up in both disciplines. 8 young judges were provided by Malmesbury School as well as 23 leaders who were fantastic with the younger pupils and made for a smooth running competition.


Corsham School ran 3 year 5/6 Netball competitions


winners of these progress to play Sherston next term to confirm which team progresses to the Level 3 county finals. These finals will be officiated by the 20 young officials who attended the Young Umpire Award day ran by England Netball at Devizes School.

Abbeyfield PE host CPD courses for MId-Wilts teachers


This course saw 18 primary school teachers put through their paces, and improve their knowledge and skills in coaching tennis effectively to primary school children. The teachers began by learning the fundamental skills involved within the sport, before moving on to the more technical aspects. Teachers were inspired and have started to convey what they learnt to the pupils in preparation for the Level 2 school games event in May at Devizes Tennis Club. The afternoon session was aimed at


Megan Lloyd selected to represent England


Megan Lloyd 9MVC an Abbeyfield Sports Ambassador and fighter of Chippenham Kickboxing Academy, has received some fantastic news from the International Combat Organisation (ICO). Megan has been selected to represent Team England at ICO world championships in Germany in October 2015. Congratulations on your fantastic achievement Megan and we look forward to supporting and hearing about your achievement.


secondary school teachers. 12 took on the high paced and fun Cardio tennis course. Skipping ropes, agility ladders, shuttle runs were all brought into play as the teachers learnt how to deliver this exciting variation of tennis.


The course tutor for both courses, Julie Williams was fantastic and delivered all area’s in a fun and clear way. All teachers for both courses will also receive fantastic resources from the LTA.


Ethan Pierce from Abbeyfield represents Wiltshire Schools


The South West Schools’ Cross Country Championship 2015 producing a superb afternoon of sport, held at Grittleton House. The competition welcomes young runners from Avon, Cornwall, Dorset, Devon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire. Ethan Pierce 9SKS represented the Wiltshire Squad. A great effort and sprint finish by Ethan, resulting in good placement within the Wiltshire team.


Lunch time Badminton “Smash Up” sessions


SmashUp! is Badminton England’s perception changing, innovative youth badminton initiative, aimed at inspiring 13-16 year olds of all sporting ability to swing a racket for fun. With a modern sociable mix of badminton games and challenges with bold court branding and motivating music the programme has proved a hit across the country with over 1500 sites now signed up.
