Dauntsey’s School Tribute to ‘This Girl Can’ Campaign

Dauntsey’s School has created its own tribute to the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign by filming an inspirational video of girls participating in sport during a typical day at the school. Kerri Bradley, recently appointed Deputy Director of Sport at Dauntsey’s, talks here about why they wanted to support the campaign.

“I am passionate about the importance of girls developing a love of sport and a positive attitude towards exercise.

The girls here love their sport it is part of daily life at Dauntsey’s, and everyone participates in a wide range of different activities, some at a seriously

competitive level, many just for fun. My job as a teacher is to foster an enthusiasm that will last a lifetime. I have been a huge fan of Sport for England’s ‘This Girl Can’ initiative. I love the idea of celebrating active girls and women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it or how they look.

We came up with the idea of creating the video as a tribute to ‘This Girl Can.’ The girls were very involved in putting it together and it was filmed over just one day at school. We have been overwhelmed with the response both from within the school and the wider community. It shows that there really

The National Obesity Awareness

Week Competition Soon after 9, we made our way to the train station and took the 9.47 train to London Waterloo. Eventually, we got there after more than an hour of staring out the window, looking into space. My heart was thumping, I hadn’t been to London for years.

Towering above stood the well-known London Eye, and across the Thames River I spotted The Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and The Houses of Parliament.

St Marks School entered some of their pupils into a competition to raise awareness of The National Obesity Week. The children had to create an ‘exercise diary’ for a week, keeping a log of any physical activities that they did. Chhimi’s won second prize, a trip to the Olympic Park and £1,000 for the school. Here is Chhimi’s account of the day.

On Thursday, January 15th, I woke up at 7 and no wonder, today was the day I’ve been waiting for.

Olympic Park Wiltshire and Swindon Relay 13

We made our way back and took the tube from Waterloo to Stratford. We walked along the pavement until we reached The Copper Box Arena. Surrounding me, I saw: The Olympic Stadium, the Aquatics Centre, Lee Valley Velopark, the Arcelormittal Orbit and the Press and Broadcast Centre. I was over the moon, we made it!

Afterwards, I entered the arena and got changed, ready and ecstatic for the upcoming event.

At 3.30 we split off into groups and tried out new games that had been invented. First up was Space Hoppers. We split into

is a sport for everyone, no matter what your shape, size or ability.

Do take a look – we would love to hear what you think of it:-”

teams and had to pass the ball to each other and get it into the opponent’s goal. Next was Foot-golf, we had to get a ball from one end to the other with as less kicks as possible, while dodging all the obstacles. Last of all it was a game called Volley-dodge, the aim was to hit the ball off the wall of the opposing team.

After all the fun ended, we carried on for the prize-giving and presentations. As my name was called out, I made my way up and collected my certificate, medal and a bag of Disney: toys, diaries, art kit, football, water-bottle, DVD, some books and £1000 for my school sports equipment. Ultimately, we got back home and I had an experience I will never forget.
