The 2014 annual School Games Panathlon disability Competition was a great success really bringing the smiles on all involved from the Young Athletes, Marlborough College Volunteers and helpers alike.
Approximately 80 young athletes with a disability attended in spite of their difficulties, all of the athletes competed outstandingly well, with the most good-natured spirit possible in their events. They came from Uplands and Brimble Hill Schools in Swindon, St Nicholas and Rowdeford Schools Chippenham and Larkrise in Trowbridge. There were five main areas of
The event was extremely well organised on the day by James from London based Panathon and his colleagues as well as Alma and Rik from Wiltshire and Swindon Sport. Thanks to the Lower Sixth Students from Marlborough College who are studying the International Baccalaureate. As part of this Scheme they have to carry out community based learning supporting others and what better way of helping and supporting people less able than themselves than at such a great event. Thanks also to Marlborough College for hosting the Competition.
The students found the experience thoroughly rewarding which reminded us all of the importance of not taking what we have for granted after seeing these children overcome so much with huge smiles on their faces.
