Avon Valley School Sports Partnership Mini Marathon
The Avon Valley SSP Mini Marathon took place at Avon Valley College on a glorious Saturday morning with over 340 children participating. The morning kicked off with the girls U9 race followed by the boys, then
the U11 races. We had runners from a variety of local schools as well as Schools in the Marlborough and Pewsey area.
The KS1 fun run was just one lap of
the course and saw over 100 parents running with their children. To finish the year 7 and 8 boys and girls ran their 3300m. The morning finished with presentations from the Principal of Avon Valley College Mr Avoth and
the Chair of Governors Mrs Hitchen. Thank you to the year 10 Young Ambassadors – Charnia Rogers, Abbie Conn and Erin Jones for helping to present the medals to the children at the end of the races. Lifestyle Fitness for performing each warm-up, the AVC staff for helping to set up, marshal and do the results.
Avon Valley Sports Partnership Indoor Athletics Festival
They competed in the following activities: Foam javelin, Chest push, Balance test, Standing Long Jump, Speed Bounce and Vertical Jump.
The evening ended with relays where the pupils had to run the length of the sports hall turn on the rebound boards and run all the way back.

Monday the 20th October saw the annual Indoor Athletics festival for year 2 and year 6 pupils. The festival took place in the Sports Hall at Avon Valley College. Pupils from Netheravon, Figheldean, Kiwi and Durrington Infants took part.

Wiltshire Young Athletes competing at the National Level 4 School Games on 4-7 September in Manchester
More than 10,000 spectators are expected in Manchester to watch 9 Wiltshire athletes competing the Sainsbury School Games competition. They will join 1,600 athletes taking part in this multi-sport completion and will be representing the County in the athletics, cycling, gymnastics, hockey, judo and swimming events.
The Games have provided a springboard for many of today’s biggest names in sport. Previous competitors include Paralympic gold medallists Ellie Simmonds, Hannah Cockroft and Jonnie Peacock along with GB sprinter Adam Gemili, heptathlete Katrina Johnson- Thompson, and Olympic bronze medallist gymnasts, Max Whitlock and Sam Oldham
Throughout the year Wiltshire and Swindon Sport have run the Wiltshire

and Swindon Sainsbury’s School Games County competitions that has given every school in the county the opportunity to get involved in this event.
Wiltshire and Swindon Sport Chief Executive Steve Boocock said “We are pleased to be part of this pathway for young people and very proud of our local athletes that have been invited to compete in Manchester along with some of the most talented young athletes from across the country”
The Games, which are a major multi-sport event supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England, give a true taste of high-level competition to the UK’s best school- aged competitors.

Talent Inspiration Programme (TIP)
Running in parallel to the Sainsbury’s School Games this year, the Talent Inspiration Programme (TIP) will bring together 200 young aspiring athletes from across the country.
Four local athletes, James Wright & Maddy Brown from Lavington School and Thomas Haworth and Abby Miles from Lydiard Park Academy have been selecting to attend the activities that are specifically designed to engage and inspire young aspiring athletes and encourage them to start thinking about how they can reach their sporting potential.
