• Supporting and engaging the least active children through new/ additional Change4Life clubs.

• Paying for professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport.

• Running sport competitions, or increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games.

• Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE and sport.

Wiltshire and Swindon Sport (WASP) is your County Sports Partnership which works closely with Wiltshire Council, Swindon Borough Council, National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGB), Strateguc Partners, clubs, coaches and volunteers to create a lasting legacy for PE, sport and physical activity. Our focus is to ensure that national sport has local reach.

WASP would like to introduce the Lead on the Primary Sport Premium Rik Grover, whose role is to provide support and advice to Primary Schools and to help them improve the quality of the PE and sport activities they offer their pupils.

Rik is working with and co-ordinating all the various partners involved in providing Primary School Sport in the county and is instrumental in setting up courses and training for teachers and private coaching providers. The aim is to encourage a cohesive approach to sports provision in Primary Schools.

Primary Sports Premium Brochure

We are in the process of producing a document that will offer support and advice to Primary Schools to effectively utilise their PE and Sport Premium funding while guiding them on the associated Ofsted inspection requirements. This will be sent out to all Head Teachers during term 2 via post and will be visible on www.wiltssport.org.uk once published.

Main areas covered in the document will be:

Funding is calculated on the number of pupils on school census data. Funding is ring-fenced for the provision of PE, sport and physical activity.Ofsted will be inspecting the use of funding as part of the school’s overall provision.Schools must publish information on their website.

• Providing places for pupils on after- school sports clubs and holiday clubs.

• Pooling the additional funding with that of other local schools.

• Using tools and surveys to identify possible pupil interests and current activity levels.

Current Ofsted Inspection Guidance

1. Effective use of the funding will form part of Ofsted’s inspection of the quality of the school’s leadership and management.

2. Evidence will be gathered in the usual ways from meetings, observations and discussions although information published on the school website may also be included.

3. The funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision for pupils. This will result in pupils’ increased participation, the development of healthy lifestyles and pupils achieving their best possible performance levels.
