St Laurence Cricketers

reach National Final Hutton Grammar school from Preston, ended so close with only 2 runs short of victory. Although bitterly disappointed not to be crowned National Champions, in reaching the final the players recognised the enormity of their achievement and were rightly proud of representing St Laurence on a national stage.

In July 2017, the St Laurence U13 boys cricket team became South West Champions in the Chance to Shine hard ball cricket competition competing against the champions of Berkshire, Cornwall, Wales, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon and Hampshire. St Laurence as South West Champions now headed for the National finals which were held at Northamptonshire County Cricket ground on Friday 15th September.

It was a fantastic experience to play on a 1st Class County ground, to compete against the best schools in the country and meet England International James Taylor. The final against a very strong

Netball at Wellington Academy

On the 27th September, Kate Murphy from The Wellington College came to the academy to coach the Yr 7- 13 netball teams. Kate Murphy has previously played super league and is currently playing within a national team.

The students spent two hours working on their ball handling skills, movement and game play. The students also had the opportunity to ask Kate questions about playing at super league and national league level.

The netball team are working hard with the fixtures against local schools starting next week, and then in March the girls have the opportunity to attend a Netball residential at PGL Liddington. A trip to watch England play netball is also being organized for November to further inspire the girls to take part in sport.

My aim at the Academy is to increase participation in sport for the girls,

through netball. Since 2009 when there was only 6 girls who played for the school team, I have developed Netball so there is now a successful team in every year group from 7 - 11. I also have sixth formers playing and assisting with clubs. We regularly get over 30 students attend training, with our numbers increasing every week. The girls now play in the local Andover and Avon Valley partnership leagues.
