d84 CASE STUDY
wooden oor, a white eiling and white walls, while the oor and walls of the warm one are overed in tiles in three shades of an earthy reddish rown. These tiles are from Agro htal’s oldline series. The onrete eiling of this part of the apartment is painted as well, in a terraotta olor that losely mathes that of the tiles.
The two ontrasting parts of the interior are tied together y frnitre in la, white and grey. The asene of any other olor than terraotta has a strong visal effet, giving the slightly nsal impression of eing in a partially olored laandwhite movie.
n the proess of designing the apartment’s interior, the arhitets have eplored mltiple possiilities to maimise the differene etween the two parts, testing different ontrasts in material and olor. arda

said: e imagined that the day is right, fll of light, tals, friends, and food, while the night time ass for a private, safe and osy plae, and is a it dar and sleepy.
pressing these different moods in a relatively ontained spae has een the leading onept and has driven every design deision within the sheme. arda notes that for them and the lient, who was enthsiasti aot the idea right from the start the apartment shold have a strong and nonventional harater.
The ontrast they have opted for white wood verss terraottaolored eramis is not only strong in itself, t ontains an intriging twist as well. The onventional division in apartments is ased on the presene, or asene, of rnning water. sally the ithen, athroom and toilet are groped together
and often treated as a nit. n this ase, the material of hoie for the wet’ part of a dwelling is not applied in the ithen, while the edroom is lad with eramis.
As arda sees it, there were several reasons to tilise these tiles: e wanted to se a natral material whih old fill the spae’ and wold sggest that it wold e there permanently.
n addition, the designers elieve eramis old evoe the alm atmosphere they were seeing. ost importantly perhaps for the ritial sess of this interior is how the tiles have een lierated from their ommon, limited role and have eome the front and entre of the interior. d
