DESIGNER: What is your ideal kitchen layout and appliance nurtin r the he EGGLETON: I like a kitchen which features a central island with all the appliances within easy reach to facilitate the cooking process. A bank of appliances, which not only looks neat, but will provide a multitude of cooking options, including a coffee machine, would be perfect. For me, I prefer built- in refrigeration and this style provides a slee finish in the modern ithen. This room also needs to be open-plan; ideally a space in which I can have friends round for dinner and can chill out after a meal.

DESIGNER: What kitchen appliance(s) could you never be ithut in yur n he EGGLETON: For me, a single oven, steam oven and microwave work so well in a horizontal bank of appliances.  also oldn’t do withot an indtion hob – they are so easy to use and can make cooking a breeze if time is tight, whether you want to whip up a quick stir-fry or throw together a tasty omelette. A separate fridge and freezer are also important for cooking and entertaining when ’m not woring!.

you feel should (or will!) make the trnsitin t the he EGGLETON: Indoor barbecuing is becoming more popular especially as yo st an’t garantee the good old British weather, despite the recent heat wave! So, investing in a ho with a cast iron griddle (which is dishwasher safe maes perfet sense. This way, yo an hargrill yor meat, fish and vegetables then clean up easily, too. o’ll find many professional ithens are now using indoor BBQ methods, too.

DESIGNER: Gas or induction hob nd hy EGGLETON: Well, I prefer induction hos. After all, they’re more energy effiient and this ooing method is a lot safer for families with young children because energy is transferred directly to the pan so there are no open ames to consider for example. This appliance is definitely the ftre and indtion technology is now moving into more commercial kitchens.

DESIGNER: What are your preferred materials in the kitchen at home inudin r rts rin nd esehere EGGLETON: I like granite worktops because this material is so durable and it can add real value to your kitchen.

This natural surface can take the heat of a pan too, which I think is always important in a fully functional kitchen. ood ooring or erami tiles wor st as well in the kitchen – it can depend on whether yo’re looing for more warmth underfoot, which is why wood may be yor first hoie, or perhaps a patterned look you can create with tiles.

DESIGNER: What would you most like to change about your current he ithen EGGLETON: ’m very pleased with my kitchen, because it was only installed reently. ’ve got a seletion of Caple appliances in there, including a wine cabinet, cooking appliance and a discreet built-in extractor. The only thing I would change would be the window; ’d lie a igger one to let more light in.

DESIGNER: What advice would you give kitchen designers looking to create residential spaces that work as effectively as a professional ithen

EGGLETON: I like a kitchen where everything is within easy reach so my advice would be to keep the design simple.
